Dole Nutrition Institute: Feed the world with knowledge
MANILA, Philippines – Imagine a world full of healthy and vibrant people. That is what Dole Nutrition Institute hopes to help bring about.
Dole Food Company’s Dole Nutrition Institute (DNI) is a research and education foundation that aims to educate people on the wellness and health benefits from plant-based food. DNI was founded in 2003 in Westlake, California by David Murdock, owner of Dole Food Company who envisioned DNI to “feed the world with knowledge,” which is now the mission of DNI.
DNI not only gives information about a healthy diet but also provides free teaching materials to teachers, including interactive computer software, charts that help students keep track of their daily fruit and vegetable consumption, cookbooks with healthy recipes for kids, free downloadable songs, and interactive shows to encourage kids to eat more fruits and vegetables.
DNI has also created the employee wellness program for Dole’s more than 300 corporate headquarter employees. The program aims to turn Dole employees into active individuals by offering healthy snacks, fitness classes, full gym, on-site personal trainers, and discounted healthy meals in the company cafeteria.
DNI likewise collaborated with the Children’s Hunger Fund by giving out 250,000 copies of nutritional publications in 2007.
