New York's master chef Toba Garrett comes to AHA Philippines

-

MANILA, Philippines - The American Hospitality Academy (AHA) Philippines, the first and only international culinary school in the country, is bringing in master chef Toba Garrett from New York to teach its students the intricate art of cake design from Oct. 7 to 9 and to lead a cake decorating workshop at the US Embassy on Oct. 10.

Master chef Toba is one of the world’s foremost artists in her field. For 30 years, she has studied and mastered this intricate art and has won more than a dozen international gold and silver medals as well as countless diplomas and felicitations. These include the trophy of Les Commandarie des Cordons Bleus de France and the 14-karat-gold medal of honor from Le Societè Culinaire Philanthropique de New York. A celebrity in her own right, she has been featured on The Today Show, Home Matters and Emeril Live while her work has appeared in various magazines including In Style, Modern Bride, Gourmet, Woman’s Day, Chocolatier and many more.

Toba is also a master chef-instructor of cake decorating and design at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City, a department she started more than 14 years ago. Today, her classes, which are among the most comprehensive and diverse in the world, are sold out months in advance. As an extension of her desire to educate, she has also authored several books including Professional Cake Decorating, the first professional cake-decorating textbook, The Well-Decorated Cake and Creative Cookies: Delicious Decorating For Any Occasion.

Master chef Toba is part of AHA Philippines’ World Master Class Series, a program that brings in master chefs from all over the world to train the academy’s students and instructors. This series includes multi-awarded executive chefs and pioneers of culinary education including chef Susina Jooste (South Africa), chef Hubertus Cramer (Germany), chef Michael Caffrey (London), chef Gene Cordova (Philippines), Dr. Rosalinda Lagman-Hoops (US) and Dr. Corazon Gatchalian (Philippines).

AHA Philippines, which opened its doors in October 2006, has since been committed to providing world-class education, practical training and cultural exchange skills in the field of hospitality. Alongside this goal, AHA Philippines seeks to give back and contribute to the progress of culinary education in the country and the Asia Pacific region. Among its academic offerings include an associate degree in International Culinary Arts, a diploma in Culinary Arts and Culinary Entrepreneurship, short courses for cooking and baking enthusiasts, and a six-month international internship in AHA partner hotels in the US, UK and Asia.
