Homemade Red Power Juice

MANILA, Philippines — Healthy living means healthy eating and drinking. Nowadays, a lot of people are into juicing, which gives the body lots of nutrients from fresh fruits and vegetables and does it a lot of good.

It is best if you do your juicing first thing in the morning, so you can drink it before breakfast, and the fiber goes right into the body and cleanses it even before you take complex food that needs longer digestion.

Let me share with you the combination of fruits and vegetables that I learned to do a few years ago to whip up a fresh vegetable and fruit juice that is good for the body. It’s based on a recipe for a power juice that I "discovered" on the internet, but I have since innovated on it to make it more palatable and enjoyable to drink.

Homemade Red Power Juice

INGREDIENTS:

1 pc. red sugar beet

1 pc. cucumber

1 pc. apple

3-4 pcs. medium-sized carrots

2 slices pineapple

1 small sprig parsley

1 stem malunggay (moringa) leaves

PROCEDURE:

1. Slice off the hard parts of the red sugar beet and cut into sticks.

2. Cut the cucumber into sticks. There is no need to peel or deseed.

3.  Core the apple and slice.

4. Slice off both edges of the carrots and cut them into sticks.

5. Rough-cut the pineapple.

6. Wash the parsley and malunggay leaves.

7. Switch on the juicer and place the ingredients gradually into it. Let them process until all the ingredients are juiced. Switch off and pour the juice into glasses. Drink while fresh.

Makes 2 servings.
