When Your Body Needs A Time-Out

BETWEEN YOU & ME - BETWEEN YOU & ME By Jacquilou Blanco -
When we are tired or under stress, there are many relaxation techniques our body can use for a "time-out."

Here are some which I have tried. Try them for a couple of days or a week and find out which ones relax you most.
Deep Breathing
1. Sit or lie down in a comfortable position.

2.
Place your hands on your stomach.

3.
Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose, holding your breath for a few seconds.

4.
Exhale all your air slowly through your mouth.

5.
Inhale and exhale several times.
Stretches
1. Shoulder stretch:

a.
Extend your arms in front of you at shoulder height and interlace your fingers.

b.
Turn your palms outward. Lower your chin to your chest and extend your arms forward.

c.
Hold the stretch for 10 to15 seconds or only for as long as you can. What’s important is that you feel the stretch.

Another variation of this stretch is to bring your interlaced fingers above your head. Hold only for as long as you can.
Progressive Relaxation
According to those who have trained me, this is the process of tightening and releasing your muscles.

1.
Try tightening your hand muscles by making a fist. Feel the tension in your hand. Hold this position for a few seconds.

2.
Then open your fist and let go of the tension.

3.
You may also try these with the other muscles in your body.
Visualization
I enjoy doing this because I can be anywhere I want by visualizing. Use your imagination and be transported to any place you want.

1.
Sit or lie down in a relaxed position.

2.
Picture a tranquil or calm setting like a sunny beach to feel relaxed.

3.
Visualize feeling calm, warm and relaxed.

Try these and experience a feeling of relaxation.
