Lexi's Compass

- by Lexi Schulze of Young Star Magazine -
With September being tragedy month, I hardly thought anyone would have the stomach to celebrate brought about by the spirit of the "ber" months. It would be heartless.

Funny how America dictates the universal mood. (Minus Afghanistan, of course. And a good majority of Mindanao.) We, Filipinos, walked around all shaken for a while, totally sympathetic to a people quite different—yet hardly far removed—from us.

Maybe it’s the fact that a good number of our people reside in that devastated land a million miles away. Or maybe it’s really just because we’ve never let go of that horrific "colonial mentality" bug…and we always have to be in on the action.

Whatever the case may be, thank goodness America moved on. So did we! And boy did people party come Halloween!

Destination # 1
Where Else, MTV’s Pajama Jam
October 27, 12:01 a.m. onwards

A jammie party without the comforts of cable TV…loads of fun nonetheless! Enthusiasts came in either flannel get-ups, sexy siren slip dresses, daring leopard lingerie, shroud-ish garbs, or cutesy combos. Groups nestled, chatted and chilled to soothing beats and potential MTV VJ spiels.

Simple bed-ridden amusement. Probably the best party idea in a long while…

Destination # 2
UFO Planet Rock, Cream Halloween Ball
October 27, 11 p.m. onwards

Considering the fact that outlandish outfits was not a pre-requisite, a great number still decided to beef up the ghoulish spirit of the occasion with creatively comfortable costumes (comfy enough to dance in, anyway) to inspire Cream’s resident DJs. And yes, they took their spinning to great heights at the one-time movie theater-turned club as party-goers grooved the night away to spectacular sounds and amazing laser lights.

And you thought the rave scene was over. Imagine grinding by Lara Croft, a real bad impression of Popeye, and a battalion of witches?! A true test of lucidity for hard-core ravers.

Destination # 3
Witches and Wizards Ball (Glorietta Activity Center),
October 31, 9 p.m. onwards

Halloween’s biggest séance took place as the witching hour came upon Manila! Coupled with a costume fashion show frenzy by Warp and Milkwear, Glorietta rocked with some of the most eye-catching characters to grace the night of sheer magic.

CREAM HALLOWEEN BALL

GLORIETTA ACTIVITY CENTER

LARA CROFT

MINUS AFGHANISTAN
