Baguio Sakura tree blooms after 7 years
MANILA, Philippines — One of several Sakura trees in a private Baguio resort have finally bloomed, about seven years since they were planted.
The Baguio Country Club announced on social media over the weekend that one of its Sakura trees has bloomed after years of careful nurturing.
"Encouraged by Baguio's cool climate, similar to the conditions Sakura trees need to thrive, its delicate blossoms have quietly emerged, marking a rare and meaningful moment," the mountain resort said.
The trees were donated to the resort by Japanese nationals Shinji Okomora and Shingeru Tsunashima alongside club member Paz Suzuki in June 2018 and May 2019.
The mountain resort noted that such trees take years before flowering making this first bloom "a true testament to patience, nature, and time" and "a fleeting yet beautiful reminder that some of the most rewarding sights are worth the wait."
Sakura or Japanese cherry blossoms are famous for their pink colors and drawing visitors to blooming season in Japan during the months of March and April.
Cherry blossoms can also be found in a park in Atok, Benguet, some 50 kilometers away from Baguio. A ocal version known as Balayong or Palawan Cherry meanwhile can be found in Palawan, Cavite, and Bonifacio Global City.
