MANILA, Philippines — Hidden Beach in El Nido, Palawan was recognized by travel magazine and website Condé Nast Traveler on its latest list of Best Beaches in the World.

Published last month by Lizzie Pook, Hidden Beach is the 19th best beach out of a total 34 listed by the travel outlet.

Pook acknowledged that Hidden Beach's growing popularity veers away from its name, but it continues maintaining recognition as one of the world's best beaches.

"Palawan is filled with pristinely beautiful spots but Hidden Beach — surrounded by imposing limestone cliffs and with startlingly bone-white sand — is separated from the turquoise ocean by a small keyhole-like opening, through which visitors must climb in order to access the lagoon," Pook's write-up read.

Hidden Beach was ranked the third-best beach in the world last year in a list by pharmaceutical company Banana Boat.

The No. 2 on the list was Anse Source d'Argent in Seychelles, which was No. 17 on Condé Nast Traveler's rankings.

Former top-ranked Lucky Bay in Australia was not included in the Condé Nast Traveler list, but another Australian beach topped the list. Palm Cove, near the city of Cairns, the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, topped this year's list.

"Recognition of Palm Cove as the world's number one beach by an award-winning travel magazine and website only validates what locals already know about Palm Cove," said Mayor Terry James.

Many other Aussie beaches made the list, including Wategos Beach near Byron Bay, Mona Vale Beach in Sydney's northern suburbs and Noosa in Queensland.

Other top contenders were Honopu Beach on Hawaii's island of Kauai, Ora Beach in Indonesia and Dune du Pilat in France. — with reports from Agence France-Presse
