Sofitel pays homage to moms

MANILA, Philippines - Sofitel Philippine Plaza recently paid tribute to moms on Mother’s Day starting with the presentation of Spiral’s master chefs of their mothers’ heirloom recipes, followed by a fashion show top-billed by celebrity mothers and their children. 

The fashion show featured the summer holiday collections of world-class designers Pia Gladys Perey and Mark Bumgarner. 

On top of their usual Sunday brunch with unlimited foie gras, oysters, champagne and mojitos, Spiral’s master chefs paid homage to their mothers’ cooking as they presented their Mother’s Day specialties.

Executive Chef Eric Costille presented rabbit cocotte with rosemary and olives, and gratinated parmesan polenta, a dish he personally learned from her mother Claudine.

Also presented in the event were Indian Chef Alim Ali Khan’s Egg Biryani, Chinese Chef Chee Wah Mok’s slow-cooked chicken with Chinese herbs wrapped in lotus leaf, Japanese Chef Hiroaki Yamaguchi’s Nikujaga, Chef de Partie and Filipino Chef Jojo Babierra’s Goat Caldereta, French Chef Anne Cecille Degenne’s own version of Paella, and Spiral’s Master Chocolatier Tweet Obsequio’s Jasmine Praline.

The fashion show featured the summer holiday collections of Perey, fresh from her success in the LA Fashion Week, and Bumgarner, an international formula racer and designer.

The show was highlighted by the presence of celebrities — actresses Alice Dixon, Gwen Zamora, Giselle Toengi-Walters, Maricar de Mesa, Maritoni Fernandez (with son Liam); celebrity host and supermodel Wilma Doesnt; former beauty queens Maggie Wilson-Consunji (with son Connor), Patty Betita (with son Emilio Ejercito), Maria Rafaela “Mafae” Belasco (with son Nico), and Lou Bunyi (with daughter France); model and journalist Georgia Schulze del Rosario (with daughter Sonia); lawyer Karen Jimeno; and celebrity talent manager Ida Henares (with daughters Steph and Julia).

Perey’s main inspiration for her Homage to Mom Holiday Summer collection was ageless fashion: embracing the elegance and shape of a woman at any age. Bumgarner’s collection, meanwhile, was designed for modern moms and women who are fearless and elegant, as it featured sporty, flowy fabrics in gold, silver, black and white.

The show was presented by Shu Uemura and Kiehls. Mothers won gifts from Lancôme, Shu Uemura, Kiehls, Swarovski perfume, Figlia shoes, and Maidenform.
