Diamond's Corniche is a gem

- Lester Gopela Hallig -

MANILA, Philippines - Nothing could be more appropriate for Diamond Hotel than to name its new restaurant Corniche. The new outlet takes its name from the French word which means a road on the side of a ledge. Diamond Hotel is found on that esplanade called Roxas Boulevard, parallel to a waterfront promenade, which is a road on the side of a coast.

Since opening in November 2010, Corniche has become the center of attention of the discriminating set. Guests continue to rave about its impressive buffet that highlights Asian (Filipino, Japanese, Indian, Chinese, among others) and Western cuisines, appetizers, and desserts.

They also appreciate the different seating areas: they can choose whether they want to dine in the semi-private tables (great for parties and gatherings) or be in the middle of it all. The restaurant’s play of lights, wide spaces, and ambiance conjure various moods, indeed a great idea for people who want a more unique approach to their dining experience. The arrangement works because diners can create their own atmosphere while dining at Corniche. Wherever they choose to take a seat, they are provided with a marvelous view of the landscaped garden and rock formation with cascading waterfalls seen from Corniche’s floor-to-glass ceiling wall.

Diamond Hotel general manager Vanessa Ledesma Suatengco says that Corniche has enhanced the overall Diamond experience. “Once you step into the hotel lobby, the restaurant lobby is a magnificent vision with its contemporary modern interiors, bright ambiance, and spacious surroundings.”

Corniche owes its eye-catching look to award-winning interior design company FBEye International Singapore, which specializes in hotel, food and beverage, luxury residential and yacht designs. Designer Warren Foster-Brown reveals that he was inspired by the elements of nature, which is reflected by hues of the interiors, the natural materials used for the furniture, and the attention-grabbing bird chandelier.

The latter, called “Migrating Birds,” is the focal point of Corniche. A fusion of glass and metal, this custom-designed chandelier draws inspiration from the splendid full height windows.

“This update complements our quality culinary offerings,” Suatengco adds. “Our idea is for our guests to create unforgettable moments with the people they love at Corniche. The outlet boasts of a staff that has undergone extensive and rigid training to provide impeccable services to guests. All this has raised the bar for Diamond Hotel’s overall service standards.”

The lunch and dinner menus are almost identical, except for the theme nights such as Steak Night on Thursdays, Seafood Night on Fridays, and Sunday Brunch.

“On top of the seafood and steaks that guests can have cooked a la minute during our theme nights, we also offer unlimited house wine. We also have the Late Nite Weekend Buffet and the Wine Buffet from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with our in-house DJ spinning relaxing music,” she says.

Corniche’s Late Nite Weekend Buffet is an attractive prospect for those looking for a repast after attending a concert or movie. For only P888 nett per person, the buffet features comfort foods from congee to pizza. The buffet’s special section — the Wine Buffet — goes for P788 nett per person, and promises a selection of tapas and pica-picas.

“We at Diamond Hotel are continuously improving Corniche for a more enjoyable dining experience. Guests will have to watch out for more enhanced and interactive features. They can also expect more enticing promotional offers, including quarterly food festivals featuring local and international guest chefs,” Suatengco concludes.

It really is exciting to know that Diamond Hotel’s newest gem will continue to surprise and delight our senses in the days to come.
