Hayden Kho seeks the scent of redemption
MANILA, Philippines – If humility makes a man elegant and sexy, then Hayden Kho is probably the most elegant and sexiest man I have met lately.
It helps that he speaks in a gentle voice, that he is absolutely handsome, that he is brawny and brainy as well. Oh, okay, I gush.
The reality is that after all those sensational stories of sex, lies and videotapes giving the nation entertainment and respite from a messy government last year, Hayden Kho emerges like a tragic leading man — or anti-hero if you wish — who, like it or not, is still a star.
In malls, women actually drool over him, call out his name, approach him and request for photo ops with him. A famous writer known for his wit shamelessly asked for Hayden’s autograph upon being introduced to him at a restaurant.
This is a man whose popularity cannot be crushed by his despicable moment of weakness and vulnerability. This is a man who is man enough to admit that he has offended sensibilities and hurt the feelings of people he most cared for. Having gone through the most humiliating of ordeals on national television, and overcoming a long period of depression, a suicide attempt, and the utter loneliness of being forsaken by friends during which he took refuge in spiritual retreats, meditation and seclusion, Hayden Kho now breaks his silence.
He opened the doors of his private residence for us, and we saw how his place is ruled by white spaces, Zen elements, meditation music, and his favorite books that helped him take the path towards healing and a more purpose-driven life.
He invited us to his favorite Japanese restaurant where he released all feelings straight from his wounded and repentant heart. There were moments of teary-eyed sighs, laughter, happiness, and peace.
But most of all, there was humility.
