Oh Henry!

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Henry V. Moran Foundation (THVMF) is the brainchild of Danny Moran, the second of seven children of Henry V. Moran and Edita Moran.

Danny has been actively working for the development of sports, football in particular (his favorite sport), with those who have less in life.

Danny broached the idea of starting a foundation named after his late father, which would support the poor, not just in sports but also in education, livelihood and housing. Henry V. Moran was an avid sportsman and he taught his children that through sports they could become better people. He believed that playing sports was one way to develop character and determination. He knew that the discipline and hard work needed to excel in sports would also be a lesson in the preparation for real life.

It is with this philosophy — through sports one is prepared for real life, learning discipline and hard work — that THVMF has pursued working with the less fortunate children through football programs.

Danny, the owner of Amici restaurant and Cara Mia Gelateria, has been active in supporting football teams for the poor and the homeless for several years now through THVMF.

At the start of the development of grassroots level Danny worked with Ed Formoso. Ed is the football program head of the THVMF. “Football for good” is what Formoso calls all the work he has done for the development of the sport.

THVMF has been working with organizations like Gawad Kalinga, Tuloy sa Don Bosco in Alabang, Manila Boys’ Town in Marikina, Nayon ng Kabatan in Mandaluyong, Football Club Leverisa, Philippine Christian Foundation, Muntinlupa United Football Club, Sisters of Mary in Silang Cavite, as well as with Urban Opportunities for Change and the Philippine Football Federation.

THVMF envisions football as a way of helping those who have less in life to achieve more.

A pioneering project of THVMF was sending homeless football teams to Melbourne, Australia in 2008 and to Milan, Italy in 2009 for the Homeless World Cup competition.

This year, THVMF helped with the training of the team that will compete in the Street Child World Cup Games in South Africa.

Projects of THVMF include the improvement of the plight of the poor through education, livelihood and community development projects and low-income and socialized housing.
