Filipinos do everything over dinner. We celebrate special occasions, we exchange juicy gossip, we share problems and dish out advice. In one Bulgari party, I decided to ask some of the guests which famous personality they would take out to dinner and where would they go?
The answers they gave are interesting. I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading them.
Audie Gemora, stage actor: Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. I want to know what she has in store for the arts. I’d take her to a restaurant which serves excellent Spanish food.
Nini Ramos Licaros, businesswoman: Of course my husband but aside from him, the Pope because whenever I see him I feel so spiritual. I’d take him to my home because if I’m going to entertain somebody special, I would rather bring him to dinner with my family.
Anton Huang, executive vice president, Stores Specialist: The first person who comes to mind is Bill Clinton. So I can learn the tricks of the trade (laughs). I would probably take him to dinner at Nobu in London which is one of my favorite restaurants.
Myrza C. Sison, editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan: I would love to have dinner with Madonna and her yogi after joining them in a class of ashtanga yoga, which I am currently crazy about and can’t seem to get enough of. I’d talk yoga with them all night at a vegetarian Indian restaurant of her choice!
Mel Meer, president, Bergamo:Loren Legarda. Loren is kalog so it’s easy to take her anywhere but maybe I’d take her to Sala because for me, the place is really nice and just right.
Bukidnon Governor Joe Zubiri: I don’t want to mention any particular name that would get me in hot water with my wife (laughs).
Ruby Tuason, businesswoman: Clinton, of course. I'd take him to my bedroom...so he can lie down on my bed and relax. Then we'll can have a quiet dinner.
Mia Nolasco Cuenca, general manager of Luxasia, Inc.: Hugh Grant. He’s fidgety on screen, but I have a feeling he’s nice and cool off screen. I can imagine having a good conversation and a lot of fun with him.
Alta Tan, former model: Prince Charles and I’d bring him to Sonya’s Garden in Tagaytay because this place has the ambience of an English garden.
Pepper Teehankee, writer/photographer: Benito Mussolini. I’d take him to L’Incontro so he’d know there’s good Italian food in Manila!
