WATCH: 'American Idol' contestant calls out Katy Perry for 'hurtful mom-shaming' joke
MANILA, Philippines — "American Idol" contestant Sara Beth Liebe called out singer and the reality competition's judge Katy Perry for making a "hurtful" comment regarding her being a young mother during her audition on the show.
Sara Beth's audition was on the "American Idol" episode aired last March 5, wherein during her introduction, she revealed that at 25 years old, she already has three kids.
Upon hearing that, Katy stood up in apparent shock, leaning against fellow judge Luke Bryan as she clutched the table.
"If Katy leans on the table, I think I'm gonna pass out," Sara Beth said, to which Katy answered, "Honey, you've been laying on the table too much."
Katy's statement earned the ire of several individuals, calling it a shameful comment toward young mothers, which led to Sara Beth addressing the issue in a TikTok video.
After recounting the experience for viewers where she referred to Katy's joke as "not super kind," Sara Beth admitted she didn't really have much to say on her feelings about the incident as to her it was self-explanatory.
"It was embarrassing to have that on TV and it was hurtful, that's that," Sara Beth said, shifting instead to praising fellow women supporting and uplifting other women.
Sara Beth called mom-shaming "super lame" — with the difficulties of being a woman compounded by motherhood — and embraced all the mothers who have shown their support.
@sarabethliebe Well. I didnt think id be making this video, but i just wanted to say a couple things since im being flooded with articles and comments/messages about this.

"Keep loving your babies, nobody deserves to feel crappy about that," Sara Beth ended. "If you're a good mama and you love your babies, that's all that really matters, and other comments just don't feel necessary."
During her audition, Sara Beth performed Amy Winehouse's "You Know I’m No Good" and Elton John’s "Benny and the Jets," wherein she received more criticism from the judges especially Katy.
The hopeful contestant still received a golden ticket, with Katy reluctantly giving the deciding vote following Lionel's gut decision to say no, and she moves on to the next round.
Katy herself is a mother to two-year-old Daisy Dove, her daughter with husband Orlando Bloom whom she has been with since 2016 (with a one-year break between 2017 to 2018). — Videos from the YouTube account of "American Idol" and Sara Beth Liebe's TikTok account
