The beauty secret of the rich and famous

SAVOIR FAIRE - Mayenne Carmona -

The New Year has just set in and one gets to realize that Father Time waits for no one. With every passing year, so does our youth.  We wake up one day realizing the brutal truth that we have just entered our golden years.  And just around the corner, a decade after, are the senior years.  We all want to hold on to our youth eternally, but so far, the formula for the elixir to stay young, strong and unwrinkled is still waiting to be discovered in the famous laboratories of the world.

Scientists say that the enigma to the Fountain of Youth will be unraveled soon because man need not search far and wide for it.  It is actually found in the human body, in parts of the human body that are rich in stem cells. And most ideally, the stem cells found in the umbilical cords of babies or in the unused embryos of in vitro clinics all over the world.

What are stem cells? Stem cells are the master cells of the human body. What defines stem cells from other cells is their ability to self-generate and the ability to differentiate into other cell types.

Stem cells are at the center of a new field of science called regenerative medicine. All stem cells, regardless of their source, have three general properties: they are capable of dividing and renewing themselves for long periods; they are unspecialized; and they can give rise to specialized cell types.

Self-regeneration is the ability of stem cells to divide and produce more stem cells. During early development, the cell division is symmetrical, i.e. each cell divides to give rise to daughter cells, each with the same potential. Later in development, the cell divides asymmetrically with one of the daughter cells produced also a stem cell and the other a more differentiated cell (such as a brain cell, blood cell, etc.) Eternal youth seekers have great reason to cheer with the revelation of science about stem cells and anti aging. Evidence is increasingly coming to the forefront that regenerative properties of the stem cells can cure many age-related complications and delay aging. The use of stem cells in treatment has slowly evolved over the past 10 years and has become more accepted. The integration of stem cells is gradually becoming more popular as an active anti-aging ingredient to promote skin regeneration. With aging, the cells of the body begin to decay. They lose their ability to regenerate and repair tissue.  Changes begin to show on the skin; the internal organs such as the heart, sex glands, immune system, etc., begin to lose their functional efficiency.  At this point, one looks and feels old.

Treatments Today Using Stem Cells

In the past, only the rich and famous could afford to go to the specialists in Switzerland who used the stem cells from unborn baby lambs. Today, we have in our midst local doctors who do stem cell beauty treatments in their clinics. Dr. Mylah Joven, diplomate of the Philippine Society of Dermatology, and Dr. Marianne Chua Simeon are trained to do stem cell treatments using embryonic stem cells from top laboratories in Singapore.  They call their treatment the Power White Cell Treatment, which repairs tissues and increases the level of cell regeneration. Clinical nurses prepare the elixir at a laboratory onsite where they isolate the active “rejuvenating” stem cells to be absorbed by the human body. The extract is billed as a powerful booster for the aging immune system, flagging memory and is also said to have cancer-fighting properties. Dr. Joven says, “the treatment does not promise eternal youth, which is impossible to achieve. It does however effectively and radically slow down the aging process.” Procedure: On the first day, one should be ready to spend four to six hours in the clinic. After a thorough checkup, and granting that everything is okay with the client, the treatment starts. A serum with fresh stem cells is applied topically by a machine all over the body.  Then an elixir composed of pure embryonic stem cells is applied intravenously.  The intravenous injection has to be repeated every three days for two weeks. The topical procedure is applied once a week.  The body is expected to peel after one week.  The body peel is expected to recur for the three weeks that the treatment is ongoing. One comes out of the three-week treatment with a new layer of fresh, rejuvenated skin. A youthful new person with less wrinkles and tighter skin, looking like one just came out of a surgical face-lift is the supposed effect of the treatment.

As a safety reminder, the doctors warn that clients should only go to reputable professional doctors for this procedure.  The client should follow the recommendation of the doctors before and after the treatment.

Evidence of the anti-aging effects of stem cells is reported in the medical journals as a very safe way to regain, attain and bring back your youth and beauty.
