MANILA, Philippines - Who is the American chef, author and TV host of Food 911 and My Country, My Kitchen, and sits on the board of the Culinary Council of Macy’s Department Store?

He was born on March 3, 1971 and graduated from the College of Culinary Arts at the South Carolina campus of Johnson and Wales University in 1991. He was later given an honorary doctorate from the university for his culinary success.

He relocated to New York City in 1992, and honed his culinary skills under the tutelage of some of the city’s premier chefs, including Charlie Palmer at Aureole, Marta Pulini at Mad 61, and Ricky Laakonen at River Cafe.

In 1995, he became the executive chef of Cibo, where his original creations received applause from New York City’s publications. In 1998, he opened the critically acclaimed Cafeteria in Manhattan, and under his direction, the restaurant received a nomination for Best New Restaurant in Time Out New York.

He made his television debut in 1996 with guest appearances on the Food Network and his national appeal was confirmed with the launch of Food 911 in 2000. He has also hosted other Food Network shows including Planet Food, All American Festivals, and My Country, My Kitchen. In the fall of 2004, he also began hosting How to Boil Water.

Developing a unique perspective on how Americans like to eat and cook today, he is a champion for uncomplicated recipes, right flavors, and fresh food. This, he believes, is the type of cooking that comes from a “real” kitchen — a place dedicated to culinary honesty.

With his widespread experience, he has encountered every conceivable approach to crowd-pleasing classic dishes from fried chicken to burgers, spaghetti and meatballs.

His Ultimate Show on the Food Network became a visual cookbook of America’s most beloved dishes, demonstrating his ultimate recipes. He has also written books that reflect his culinary philosophy — Ultimate Kitchen, Eat this Book, and Ultimate. Two books — Kitchen Handbook and Dinner at My Place were released in 2008.

He now sits on the board of the Culinary Council for Macy’s Department Stores and has a new tabletop line with Mikasa.

He is a regular on NBC’s The Today Show and has appeared on The View, Good Morning America, and The Tonight Show.
