Do fad diets work? Fat chance!

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - “I will lose weight,” goes the most popular resolution. People try different ways to slim down, especially through fad diet plans, but fail to achieve their fitness goal. Some combine them with pills, injections, gym memberships, or even invasive procedures, only to see no results, or gain their weight back later.

Fact is, fad diets never work. Instead, actual success stories point to the crucial role of lifestyle change in efforts to be in shape. This is the core principle behind the Cohen program, a rapid weight loss solution that lets one lose eight to 10 lbs. a month. It was developed by Dr. Rami Cohen, an international specialist renowned for his research on hormones involved in obesity and weight loss.

One of the program’s core strengths is its ability to deliver fast results, which is key to keeping the person motivated despite the discipline and dedication required. For instance, 43-year-old Atty. Arturo Selim lost 71 lbs. just five months into the program, an achievement that truly encourages him to continue.

Before enrolling in the program, Arturo weighed 268 lbs. and could not buy clothes his size off the rack. In addition, he could no longer travel, hie off on his mountain bike or play badminton because the weight was a burden to his knees and heart.

Like Arturo, 38-year-old Abigail Lim credits the Cohen program for her rapid loss of weight, going down from 240 to 130 lbs. in just nine months. She especially lauds its individualized approach to slimming down, which effectively addressed her Class 3 obesity.

As Barbara Young, CEO at the Cohen Lifestyle Centre Philippines, explains, “Each person’s blood test results are used to analyze their unique body chemistry. A personalized eating plan which triggers the body’s natural ability to shed off fat rapidly and safely is then developed to bring their hormones back in balance.”

Unlike other weight loss solutions, Cohen does not involve the intake of potentially harmful pills and injections, or require exercise. This delighted Maggie Lacsamana, 47-year-old senior IT project manager, who tried several diet programs and oral formulations but found success only with Cohen.

Food that is already in one’s kitchen becomes the medicine for the weight problem, as the eating plan consists of three meals a day taken in specific quantities from the basic food groups of protein, vegetable, fruit, and carbohydrate. As Arturo shares, “I learned how to choose and eat the right amount of food at the right time.”

The success of Cohen program lies greatly on the lifestyle change it advocates, as evident in Maggie’s story. After losing 102 lbs. under the Cohen program, she says, “It is the only program that worked with long-term results, and the only one I was able to follow for more than three months. Adapting to it was a challenge but with sheer determination and discipline to follow it rigidly, it just fell into place and became a natural transition. I had to let go of my unhealthy daily routine and bad eating habits.”
