Metro hospitals teach ABCs of diabetes

-

MANILA, Philippines - As long as people fail to exercise and watch their diet, diabetes continues to be a leading cause of mortality in the Philippines. To help stem the tide, Abbott Nutrition International (ANI) recently set up diabetes information booths strategically located in about 35 metro hospitals to promote awareness about the disease and present Glucerna SR’s “ABC” diabetes management guides where:

• A is for HbA1c, which reminds people to check their hemoglobin-A1c levels. These tests show how much sugar levels in the blood have increased or decreased over the past three months.

• B is for blood pressure, which prompts the general public to monitor their levels regularly. High blood pressure is a serious condition that can lead to coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and other health problems.

• C is for cholesterol, which encourages us to maintain our cholesterol at a healthy level. A high level of HDL (or good cholesterol) is associated with the lowering of heart disease, while high levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) may clog the arteries and contribute to serious heart conditions.

Glucerna SR, a specially formulated nutritional supplement by ANI, acts as a nutritional supplement that responds to and effectively manages HbA1c levels, lowers blood pressure, increases HDL, and, if taken with proper diet and exercise, reduces weight.

Glucerna SR is equipped with a unique slow-release energy system where nutrients are gradually absorbed by the body to minimize after-meal blood sugar spikes. It is also high in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) which help lower blood cholesterol.

A great-tasting, low-calorie meal replacement, this clinically proven diabetes nutritional supplement comes in vanilla and chocolate flavors. One glass of Glucerna SR a day helps manage diabetes and is highly beneficial for other dietary restrictions.

ANI will continue to advocate the ABCs of diabetes management by supporting hospitals with diabetes awareness education through the Glucerna SR booth.

For more information about Glucerna SR, call the Abbott Nutrition Solutions Center at 995-1555 or the toll-free number 1-800-10-995-1555. Free nutrition advice from trained nutritionists is available to all callers.
