King of the grill
MANILA, Philippines - Premier lifestyle and dining destination Ayala Malls gave every dad a reason to enjoy Father’s Day at “Robert Rainford Live at Ayala Malls,” a cooking demonstration featuring celebrity guest chef Robert Rainford in partnership with Ayala Malls and the Asian Food Channel held recently at the Greenbelt 3 park.
Everyone, especially the dads, appreciated the grilled dishes and favorites from our local chefs. Chef Rob Pengson hosted the all-sensory cooking experience while food lovers witnessed the gastronomic treats prepared by local chefs Peter Ayson of Texas Smoke ’Em, Marciano’s and Fish Out of Water and Him de Baron of Travel Café. Chef Peter Ayson cooked up Beer Can Chicken, BBQ baked linguini with Texas link sausages, and pineapple Fosters with vanilla macaroon ice cream while Chef Him de Baron enticed viewers’ olfactory senses with his stuffed chicken wing with guava glaze and Manila BBQ sauce and crispy lettuce and purple yam salad with grilled Lucban longganisa with horseradish dressing.
“King of the Grill” Chef Robert Rainford capped the night by demonstrating his culinary expertise. For starters, he whipped up Big Man Caesar salad, then exhibited his flair for grilling with his Asian spiced lamb burgers with plum sauce as the main course. Rainford interacted with the crowd with a Q&A about all things culinary, after which came a raffle draw where the audience got a chance to take home goods from Magnolia Chicken, Selecta Ice Cream, Ecopan and more.
Rainford, an instructor at his alma mater, George Brown College, is a motivational speaker as well as a world-class chef. Born in Jamaica and now living in Canada, Rainford has now shifted his attention to the barbecue. Following the tradition of both countries, you can find him in his backyard every weekend, grilling or smoking something on his barbecue. His passion and ease in front of the camera made him a television celebrity around the world with his show Licence to Grill. Imparting barbecue tips from his backyard, Chef Robert shows everyone that when there is a grill, there definitely is a way! Licence to Grill is locally broadcast on the Asian Food Channel.
