MANILA, Philippines - There’s nothing like comfort food to warm up rainy days. The term comfort food can be traced back to 1966 when the Palm Beach Post used it in a story: “Adults, when under severe emotional stress turn to what could be called comfort food – food associated with the security of childhood, like mother’s poached egg or famous chicken soup.”

And with cooler – and stormier - days ahead, there’s nothing like a warm bowl of soup for a hearty meal and a little taste of home to fill your stomach and warm your heart.

At SM Mall of Asia, one finds comfort food from all over Asia – hand-pulled noodles simmering in flavorful broths with fresh vegetables, and choice cut meat -- in its restaurant row.  Take time out to try out these warm and wonderful specialties from Tempura Japanese Grill, Meylin Pot and Noodles, Four Seasons Hotpot City, Pho Hoa, Ya Kun Kaya, Kimono Ken, and Lugang Cafe

Tempura Japanese Grill’s tempura sukiyaki warms the heart and tummy with sliced beef tenderloin, shiitake mushrooms, tofu, vegetables and vermicelli noodles in warm sukiyaki broth. Tempura Japanese Grill is at the ground floor of the North Parking Building.

Meylin Pot and Noodles is known for its authentic Chinese cuisine and home-style cooking by its expert chefs. Since 1984, Mey Lin serves freshly made hand-pulled noodles, delectable dimsum and dumplings and its version of the all-time favorite pata tim. But for a cold rainy day, its seafood noodles, hand-pulled noodles made by their very own noodle maker served with fresh assorted seafood, is the perfect comfort food.

The group that brought Vikings Luxury Buffet and NIU by Vikings introduces a new hotpot buffet concept: Four Seasons Hotpot City. Here, the chefs handpick a wide assortment of fresh and healthy ingredients every day, allowing hotpot enthusiasts to freely customize their own dishes. And since the rainy season is here, who wouldn’t love the idea of cooking a bowl of hot soup with your favorite ingredients? Four Seasons is located at the SM By the Bay.

Pho Hoa has specialized in naturally flavored and healthy soups in over 80 restaurants operating in sevcountries. Enjoy comfort food Vietnamese style with Pho noodle soups like its best-seller pho chin nam made of of brisket, flank, rice noodles, white onions topped with wansuy. With a selection of condiments like basil, beansprouts and hoisin,plus chili and lemon flavors, you can create your own bowl of pho. Pho Hoa is at the North Park Building of SM Mall of Asia.

Ya Kun Kaya’s bah kut teh  is a Chinese soup that is one of the most-wanted dishes in Singapore. Literally translated as “meat bone tea,” bah kut teh consists of meaty pork ribs simmered in a complex broth of herbs and spices. This dish is usually served with tea to help dissolve the large amount of fat in the soup. 

Kimono Ken offers “enticingly Japanese for less” even on rainy days with negi ramen, a spicy miso-based ranen with leeks, minced pork, chashu and vegetables; and its ebi tempura udon, nodle soup with ebi and kakiage tempura toppings. Kimono Keb is on the ground floor of North Park Building of SM Mall of Asia.

Lugang Café serves the best hot soup: the spicy beef and tendon noodle soup with choice cut beef & tendon in a special spicy beef broth and topped with wansoy and pickled vegetables. Another best-seller is the Szechuan dan dan noodle with peanut sauce, a noodle dish originating from the Sichuan province. It consists of thin noodles in a special home made dan dan soup and topped with peanut sauce, minced Szechuan preserved vegetables, crushed peanuts and spring onions.

Lugang Café is on the ground floor of the Main Atrium of SM Mall of Asia.
