Savor the taste of Bistro’s success

OOH LA LAI - Lai S. Reyes - The Philippine Star

One of the greatest things about food is its ability to define us. Whether it’s an heirloom dish that has been passed down for generations, or a meal that’s indicative of our culture, food has a way of tracing back our roots.

In celebration of its 20th anniversary this year, The Bistro Group —the company that brought us successful restaurants such as TGIFriday’s, Italianni’s, Fish & Co, Bulgogi Brothers,Village Tavern, Watami, Modern Shanghai,Tonkatsu by Terazawa and introduced homegrown concepts such as Flapjacks, KrazyGarlik and Siklab — looks back as it pays homage to each restaurant’s iconic dish that has catapulted The Bistro Group into “food-dom.”

For two decades, it has broadened the Filipino palate further with unique and hearty selections that give everyone a reason to dine, savor and “taste the love”  that goes into each dish.

Beef Rice Bowl with Hot Spring Egg Tokyo-style at Watami

The Beef Rice Bowl is Watami’s gourmet version of rice topping made more exciting and delish with a sprinkle of spring onions, red ginger and  hot spring egg. It’s a Japanese dish you simply must try!

Xiao Long Bao at Modern Shanghai

There’s no other place to have this dish than at Modern Shanghai.  Delicately wrapped in wanton sheets and served in a dimsum basket, this soup-in-a dimsum treat bursts with flavor in every bite; no wonder it topped the list of spot.ph’s Top 10 Everything Food List (Xiao Long Bao).

Fish & Chips at Fish & Co.

In this fish lover’s haven, the “F” words are a way of life. “F,” of course, stands for what the restaurant serves best — the fresh, flavorful and fish-tastic Fish & Chips. Here, the cream dory isn’t covered with thick batter — that you can’t taste the fish anymore.  Crisp and flavorful, that’s what makes Fish & Co’s Fish & Chips the best in town!

Short Ribs Platter at Bulgogi Brothers

This is the ultimate trio of Bulgogi Brothers’ fine selection of beef barbecue. The meaty treat—which includes Premium Boneless Short Ribs marinated with Bulgogi Brothers sauce, Top Blade and Beef Brisket—is something you shouldn’t miss. Season it with salt and pepper before grilling and you’re definitely in for a meaty treat. It goes well with soju.

40 Kloves Chicken at KrazyGarlik

Forget about garlic breath as you munch on KrazyGarlik’s signature dish: the 40 Kloves Chicken. The chicken is simmered in 40 cloves of garlic so the flavor of the spice really seeps into the meat, then fried to perfection and served on a bed of original garlic cream sauce.

Jack Daniel’s Burger at TGIFriday’s

Guests swear by the awesome goodness of Jack Daniel’s, nope not the whiskey, but the flame-grilled burger doused in Jack Daniel’s sauce.  With melted American cheese, perfectly crisp bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and a good bun, this burger has it all!

Black Pizza at Village Tavern

Corporate chef Josh Boutwood’s chewy and flavorful Black Pizza — squid-ink pizza dough topped with Parmesan, Gruyere, mozzarella, pepperoni and mushroom — is remarkable. You should also try his char-grilled  Wagyu burgers, Foie Gras and Truffle, served on a

pretzel bun.

Country Fried Chicken at Flapjacks

Flapjack’s take on this classic dish will make you swoon over chicken breast that is lightly breaded and deep-fried till golden brown, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.  Served with creamy gravy, TexMex rice and macaroni salad, it’s how you want your fried chicken to be.

Sicilian Chicken Salad at Italianni’s

I wouldn’t mind eating salad every meal of the day as long as it’s the Sicilian Chicken Salad at Italianni’s. This merry mix of chicken breast, Romaine lettuce, grapes, mangoes and walnuts tossed in a creamy anchovy dressing is so irresistible, even kids like it!

Spanish Ibérico Pork Katsu at Tonkatsu by Terazawa

It’s a cut above the rest. And we’re talking about Tonkatsu by Terazawa’s Spanish Ibérico Katsu, the world’s finest pork. With a delicate, nutty, meaty and melt-in-the-mouth marbling, it is prepared using the traditional Japanese method of aging the meat by wrapping it in white cloth for three days.  This produces meat that is irresistibly flavorful and juicy.

Chicken Barbecue at Siklab

Marinated for six hours in coconut soy sauce, citrus and other spices, Siklab’s richly flavored chicken barbecue gives off that sweet and tangy taste you can savor bite after bite. Siklab’s food is indeed worth

dining for!
