MANILA, Philippines – Foodies are everywhere. Among this breed is an exceptional kind of foodie, the kind that knows how to whip up a meal that can send his fellow sensualists to gastronomic heaven, the kind that The Stock Market willingly opens its kitchen doors to.
As a way to celebrate the passion for gourmet cooking and delicious cuisine, The Stock Market invited two of Manila’s fervent food enthusiasts, husband and wife cooking duo Roddy and Isca Abaya to a special dinner called “Perfect Pairings.” It was a special night when fine food paired with excellent wine were brought together for pleasure.
The foodie couple, whose love for food spurred them to experiment in the kitchen, is a testament to The Stock Market’s belief as to how good food brings people together.
Isca started cooking as a young lady, for her parents believed in teaching self-sufficiency. Roddy comes from a family of cooks and therefore putting on a chef’s hat was inevitable. Interestingly enough, it was only a year ago when Roddy finally decided to take a culinary course in ISCAHM (International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management).
Over the years, their taste has been greatly influenced by great dining halls and holes in the walls found here and abroad. Both are quick to agree that a wide knowledge of flavors is the quickest way to cultivate the palate. As Roddy puts it, “Food is still derived from experience. The more you experience, the wider your tastes become.”
When asked what kind of dishes guests can anticipate in Perfect Pairings, both answered that only dishes made with the freshest ingredients will be served. This is a philosophy shared both by the couple of The Stock Market, which is best experienced by dining at the restaurant.
There truly isn’t anything like delicious food to spark passion in people. “It creates a whole environment that encourages people to come together,” says Isca. And as Roddy succinctly puts it, “Good food makes it easier to have a good time.”
