Thickening eyebrows sans tattooing
April 14, 2004 | 12:00am
Dear Mary,
I have thin and fine eyebrows. Is there a way to thicken them aside from tattooing and implants? If so, can I do the same for my eyelashes? I have come across some creams on the Internet that claim to stimulate and thicken hair growth in the areas mentioned. Do you know any that works and where I can purchase it?
Samantha
Thin and fine eyebrows can be helped with an eyebrow pencil. The pencil has to have a fine point so as to draw strokes on your brow and make them look thicker. Put some olive oil on your finger tip and rub it on your lashes nightly. When you go out, use mascara to thicken your eyelashes. Now, they also offer mascara for eyebrows. Inquire at Essenses and Rustans.

Hi Lucy!
I always read your column and I find it very practical and informative. Some of your tips I have already tried, and Im very happy to say that they really worked. And now, Ive got another problem. Ive got oily skin, and my back looks bad because of pimple scars. How do I remove them and make my skin whiter? I plan to wear a semi-backless dress for my friends wedding this month and I dont think I can wear it because of my problem. I need your help ASAP.

Make an effort to keep your back always dry so that bacteria and fungus will have no environment to thrive on. Especially after a physical activity, if it isnt immediately possible for you to take a shower, always wipe yourself dry and put some powder before putting on a clean shirt. Unless you apply some whitening cream on the scars, you will have to let the healing and fading process take their natural course. If the pimple scars are still there when your friends wedding rolls by, lightly apply powder foundation to even out your back. And if you still are not too keen on the way you look, use a pretty, very sheer shawl to throw over your back and shoulders. That way, you give the illusion of skin minus the bare-nakedness that would otherwise make you conscious. Enjoy the wedding!

Dear Ms. Tingting,
Im an avid reader of your column in the Philippine STAR. Maybe you can help me with my problem. I have a lot of keloids on my cheeks and shoulders. Please tell me more about keloids and ways to prevent/remove them. But please dont suggest expensive ways/dermatologists because I cant afford them. This problem is affecting my self-confidence and Im really losing hope.
Keloid Former
Could you tell me how you formed the keloids on your face and shoulders? Are they burns? I would advise you to see Dr. Conrado De Gracia at Medico, across the Medical City Hospital, in Pasig. I cant tell you what to do without seeing your keloids and, whats more, Im not a doctor. Try to see a dermatologist, too. Like Dr. Imelda Cervantes at tel. no. 892-1927 or Dr. Sylvia Huang at tel. no. 722-2660.

Dear Lucy,
I just wanna ask if theres any cure for the cellulite in my legs thats not so expensive. And is it true that a slimming wrap can remove cellulite?
Ms. Cellulite
Cellulite is basically stubborn fat so the best way to eliminate it would be to exercise and lose as much unwanted fat as possible. There are cellulite creams and wraps that a number of women swear by, but they do entail considerable cost. Some say that massaging cellulite-laden skin to break down the fats helps, but this remedy is not backed by research so theres no guarantee that it will work.
