Unless a woman is attending a Spanish-themed dance party, I think a woman in her 60s and 70s should refrain from wearing too much ruffles and frou-frou. I attended a dinner and saw matrons wearing miniskirts and too much makeup and girlish stuff! What an ugly sight! Please comment.

What is the proper attire for men and women during a funeral? I find it offensive seeing guests in rugged jeans and T-shirts.

You are quite right. It is not correct but sometimes people’s closets are full of jeans and T-shirts and little else. Ideally, during a funeral men would wear more solemn attire befitting the occasion, like barongs. Women should wear simple, tasteful clothes and avoid loud colors. To play safe, go for the usual somber black and white.

Dear Mary,

Don’t you find it rude when people ask: "Did you have a facelift?" or "I like your new nose. Who made it?" What do you think?
