Sotheby’s Manille lady

my LIPS are SEALED… sometimes… - Maurice Arcache -
The directors of that world-class fine art auctioneer, Sotheby’s, dahlings, are delighted to announce the appointment of elegant lady Maria Clara "Kim" Acuña Camacho as Sotheby’s top-of-the-line representative in the Philippines.

Henry Howard-Sneyd
, the magnum managing director of Sotheby’s China and Southeast Asia said, "Sotheby’s is the first international auction house to appoint a representative in the Philippines and does so in response to the large potential we see in the market there. As a company we have pioneered expansion of the fine art auction business in Asia since holding the first sale by a foreign auction house in Hong Kong in 1973."

Mover, shaker and mega achiever Kim C., palanggas, brings with her almost 20 years of business experience. She has worked with Seagram’s in New York and the National Development Company and Rockwell Land Corp. in Manille. She also owned and managed a manufacturing and exporting company for 11 years.

Kim C. is the first Filipino graduate of the chi-chi Radcliffe College where she obtained a degree in Economics. She also has an MBA from the Harvard Business School. She is married to Finance Secretary Jose Isidro Camacho, with whom she has six gorgeous children.

"Sotheby’s recognizes the tremendous potential of Filipino collectors in our auctions," explained Henry Howard-Sneyd with his characteristic smile of success. "In order to better serve its active base of clients, permanent representation in the Philippines is essential. I have no doubt that Kim will be an invaluable addition to Sotheby’s team in Asia and that her extraordinary background and intimate knowledge of Filipino society will help enhance our profile in the local community."

Sotheby’s network in Asia, palanggas, includes offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, People Republic of China, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand.

For more info, do give Kim a call at tel. no. 632-8848241, palanggas. She will be more than glad to assist you. After all, dahlings, she ain’t a one-of-a-kind lady for nothing.
To-die-for Cheesecake
Put delicious cheesecakes alongside a handful of absolutely beautiful women, then top them all off with one of society’s –– (oops, my lips are sealed on this one) and what do you get? One heck on an event, dahlings.

A new moon ago, palanggas, saw the "birth" of yet another Cheesecake, etc. branch at the busy, busy Glorietta 4, so perfect for a memorable calorific dessert experience. Prominent media, showbiz and fashion personas tres visibly sampled the best desserts in Cosmo Manille.

The dessert café officially opened to the public with the ceremonial cheesecake cutting led by yours truly and top fashion mannequins, vivacious Wilma Doesnt; gorgeous Phoemela Barranda; statuesque Lucia Santiago; bedimpled beauty Aina Calido; and perky Nicollette Bell.

The chosen invitees, palanggas, were in for a unique treat, as the models were more than happy to take their orders. The models also gamely participated in the "Plating Contest" where they decorated and styled the cheesecakes of their choices. Lucia S. emerged as the victor of this fun game. Wilma D. and Phoemela B. garnered second place honors.

The occasion also served as the debut of yet another "Cheesecake of the Moment," the Black and White, a sinful calorific combination of cheesecake and cookie-bits on top and crunchy chocolate cookie crumbs at the base. It’s definitely a must to indulge in for all you lovers of superb desserts.

Popular celebs seen enjoying themselves were actor Ricky Davao; young businessman Rudolph Yaptinchay; and the acclaimed "engineer" of the musicale Miss Saigon, Leo Valdez. PR mover and shaker, popular Angelo "Gelo" Serrano beamed with pride over the smashing success of this one-of-a-kind, to-die-for, Cheesecake, etc.

Light up your lives!

If there’s one thing we need these days, dahlings, it’s a lot of sparkle to perk us up in these dark times. And what better way to add some sparkle to your life than to light gorgeously- colored candles?

Candles are now considered works of art, palanggas, favored for their interesting designs that add character and soul to a room. Filipino homeowners and trendsetters have not been left behind by the candle craze; they’ve filled up every nook and cranny of their homes and offices with candles.

Super pals – and now business partners – creative Anton Barretto; that Miss with the four B’s (as in beauty, brains, breeding and bucks) Leah Puyat; la simpatica Angelette Calero; and stylish Ana Katigbak have been passionate candle collectors long before they decided to get together and set up the smooth Cereo Candle Exchange, Cosmo Manille’s newest chic-ky specialty shop devoted to colored and aromatic candles and candle accessories.

The pals found a perfect venue in Glorietta 4’s Home Zone, a fun hub of specialty shops devoted to home accessories and furniture on the mall’s third floor. Cereo (pronounced che-Re-yo), is the store’s Italian name, meaning "wax," the raw material used in making candles (as if you didn’t know, palanggas!).

To celebrate this exciting novel venture, the gang threw an opening party with close pals and famille members.

Tenor Dodong Crisol’s impassioned performance added color and spice to the fun get-together. Following the store’s Italian name, yet keeping in mind that it is also a showroom of Filipino creativity, Dodong C., naturellement, performed a repertoire of Italian arias and Filipino love songs. The affair was relaxed and warm and definitely quite chic. It was in short, dahlings, very much like the store itself.

With this gang of four at the helm, you can bet your last lotto ticket that Cereo Candle Exchange is a sure winner.
Martin for New Beginnings
Everything is set, dahlings, for Martin for New Beginnings, the one and only Concert King Martin Nievera’s super shindig on Nov. 20.

What makes the event so different from Martin’s other shows, palanggas, is that it is a fund-raising show for The New Beginnings Foundation, Asia’s first – and one of the best – treatment centers for chemical dependency.

New Beginnings’ last fund-raising program was held almost 19 years ago. Martin was the main participant. Entitled Best of the Best, it featured the best local artists.

The incomparable Lani Misalucha will join Martin in this year’s fund-raiser. Lani, herself a mother, shares the same passion for helping New Beginnings reach out and reform chemically-dependent youth before it’s too late.

The show will also feature talented theater and recording artists, our palanggas Cris Villonco and Alex Godinez.

For those who are still not in the know, dahlings, New Beginnings has helped close to 1,000 familles locally. It has earned a reputation for being one of the best treatment facilities for drug and alcohol addiction in the Philippines and Asia. Even people from other countries have flown all the way to Manille to be treated at New Beginnings. Well, now you know.

Internationally respected artist Ben Cabrera, better known as "Bencab," has sketched a portrait of Martin which will be used for the event’s poster.

For the last few months, Bencab and seven of his artist friends from Tam-Awan in Baguio have held portrait-sketching sessions in the house of that lady with the four B’s who really cares, cause-oriented statuesque beauty Josine Elizalde, for the benefit of Tam-Awan Village and New Beginnings. This fund-raising tie-up has strengthened a good relationship between both beneficiaries.

New Beginnings has instituted a policy of never turning anyone away. Addiction and alcoholism knows no age or class. It can hit anyone. And everyone should have a chance at rehabilitation and a new life, new beginning.

For this tres worthy cause, Martin for New Beginnings tickets can be reserved or bought by (please!) calling Ticket World at 891-5610 or New Beginnings at 772-2122.

Be there, palanggas. I know moi will.

It was a week of new beginnings for Sotheby’s, Cereo Candle Exchange, Cheesecake, etc., and Martin Nievera’s New Beginnings Concert.

Not bad, huh? Not bad at all. See you!
