MANILA, Philippines - Enjoy an evening of musical and poetic interpretation as Instituto Cervantes de Manila showcases “Music and Poetry with Miguel Hernández,” a violoncello concert featuring Pik Nik, composed of cellist duo Iñaki Etxepare and Marta Roma, on Feb. 3, 7 p.m., at Instituto Cervantes’ Salon de Actos.

The concert also kicks off a string of cultural events honoring Hernández in the year of his birth centenary this 2010. These events will be held throughout the year, culminating with the official inauguration of Instituto Cervantes Library this November.

Pik Nik’s repertoire will be divided into two sets: Fugas, consisting of songs composed by Italian- Spanish cellist Luigi Boccherini based on Hernández’s acclaimed poems, and a contemporary Mexican music by Samuel Maynez based on the poems by Cuban Nicolás Guillén.

The duo’s song lineup also includes famous cello pieces such as tangos, danzones, Mexican folk dances and other American dances.

“Music and Poetry with Miguel Hernández” is organized by Instituto Cervantes de Manila in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in the Philippines, Spanish Agency International Cooperation for Development (AECID), and the Spanish Program for Cultural Cooperation (SPCC).
