Roberto Chabet at West Gallery
MANILA, Philippines - Pioneering conceptual artist Roberto Chabet mounts “Alarm & Chaos,” which opens tomorrow, 6 p.m., at West Gallery, 48 West Ave., Quezon City. The show is on view until April 27.
In Chabet’s exhibition, the three rooms of the gallery are turned into apprehensive scenes using familiar objects — harmonicas and clipboards, embedded or attached to nondescript, monochrome paintings and neon texts that reference philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, poet Rainier Maria Rilke, and artist Alexander Rodchenko.

Manuel Baldemor at Ortigas Foundation
Manuel Baldemor holds his 150th solo exhibit titled “Travel Diary,” which opens tomorrow at the Ortigas Foundation Library’s Artists Nook, ninth floor, Ortigas Ave., Pasig City. The show is on view until April 22.
The exhibit features more than 60 paintings of some of the more than 50 countries he has traveled to throughout his storied career. Also on display are the actual travel sketchbooks where Baldemor draws studies for later rendering into full-size paintings.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the foundation’s programs for needy children.

Bernardo Pacquing at Mag:net Ayala
Bernardo Pacquing “prepares for war” in “Untitled (mattresses)” on view until today at Mag:net Gallery Ayala Avenue, ground floor, The Columns Tower 1, Ayala Ave. corner Buendia, Makati City.
A crucial part of Pacquing’s creative process was the phrase “going to the mattresses (to prepare for war),” which has been famously used in The Godfather (the titles of the pieces reference the film. The war, the show suggests, is that which the self wages on itself.

In Alex Aguilar’s latest show titled “Reflections of a Discarded Screw,” which opens on April 1 at Mag:net Gallery Ayala Avenue, the seeming disparate but not wholly unrelated elements are combined resulting in euphemistic pokes at metaphors that usually bespeak of the time-tested sentiments on mortality, faith and human existence.
