Ooh la la, French spring in Manila!
June 29, 2003 | 12:00am
"Spring is when a young mans fancy lightly turns into thoughts of love. For most young men, so is summer, fall and winter." Gene Perret
Charming, hardworking and gracious French Ambassador Renee Veyret hosted the gala opening night of the exciting French Spring 2003 at the grand ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental, the French Embassys partner in this cultural endeavor.
The excitement, the pomp and pageantry were felt by all those lucky to be invited to the grand annual event. Performances by pianist Greg Zuniega and Le Cabaret Kuya, a collaboration of French and Filipino dancers regaled the guests.
The month-long French Spring celebration fosters the ever-improving Franco-Filipino relationship by way of annual cultural tableaux featuring the finest expressions of French art in various disciplines.
A display of Le Cordon Bleu products at the Mandarin Deli, a contemporary dance performance by the Compagnie Kelemenis at the ballroom and an afternoon concert featuring soprano Aude Wacziarg and pianist Florian Bollot at the Captains Bar collectively gave a fitting sample of French cultural diversity.
The highlight of the celebration was the Journees Gastronomiques during which chef Bernard Guilhaudin, who was at the helm of several Michelin-star restaurants in France, feted Tivoli diners with his exuberant creations.
Viva la France!
