Esmeringhoy? 'Wanted sa Radyo' complaint on intimacy issues goes viral

MANILA, Philippines — A Bisaya term for intercourse and fooling around is making the rounds online after being used by a complainant on public service program "Wanted sa Radyo".
Last week, Evelyn Batuigas lodged a complaint against her husband Ronald Batuigas for abuse, supposedly cheating on her, and not providing enough for their family.
Evelyn claimed a doctor prohibited Ronald from certain activities such having sex, or rather as Evelyn described it "mag-esmeringhoy."
The "Wanted sa Radyo" hosts shared a laugh after Evelyn explained what the word meant. The complainant went on to detail her suspicions that Ronald had a mistress as well as claims that he only sent back meager portions of his salary in Guam for the family's needs.
"Nilambing-lambing ko siya, sabi ko 'Bago tayo mag-hiwalay, mag-esmeringhoy muna tayo para last na'... [pero] ayaw niya," shared Evelyn.
The couple were advised to improve their communication, undergo counseling, and approach their barangay officials regarding provisions for the children.
"Esmeringhoy" or "ismiringhoy" originates from the Visayas as a colloquial word for sex, though other Bisaya speakers also use it for suggestive jibes.
Filipinos were amused by the "Wanted sa Radyo" interaction and began making online quips using or referencing "esmeringhoy". — Video from the Raffy Tulfo in Action YouTube channel
