What to do this weekend: Comeback concerts and fun runs
MANILA, Philippines — It's the final weekend of May so here is the rundown of concerts, events and activities you might want to check out.
Returning shows
The Tanduay First Five concert series is back after over a decade, its second stop being the SM Seaside City Cebu Concert Grounds on May 29.
Forming the titular five are local powerhouse acts Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikazee, Zack Tabudlo, Flow G and December Avenue.
Parokya ni Edgar and Kamikazee were part of the line-up when the event was last held in 2013 alongside Wolfgang, Rico Blanco, Sponge Cola and special guest Gloc-9.
Also making a return is Korean star Kim Seon-ho as he drops by the Smart Araneta Coliseum on May 31 for his "Love Factory Asia Tour."
Seon-ho has held several fan meets and sponsor events in the Philippines before, including brand events in 2023 and 2024 and his first Manila fan meeting in January 2023.
Outside of comebacks, rapper J.I.D. will perform in the country for the first time on May 30 at the Podium Hall while the day before comedian Nurse John holds a show at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The weekend means another opportunity to join races around the metro.
GMA's talent arm Sparkle is launching its first-ever run on May 30 across five distances in kilometers: 3, 5, 6.6, 10, and 16.
The race will start at the Quirino Grandstand and the longer routes will pass through several Manila landmarks.
Artists expected to attend include Alden Richards, Barbie Forteza, Glaiza De Castro, AZ Martinez, David Licauco, Mika Salamanca, Dustin Yu, Will Ashley, Kris Bernal, Klea Pineda, Mikee Quintos, Sofia Pablo, Allen Ansay, Ashley Ortega, Bianca King, Vince Maristela, Jeff Moses, Therese Malvar and Kim Jisoo.
Another fun and family-friendly race happening this weekend is the Spongebob Run on May 31 by the Ayala Triangle Gardens.
Women in history
To officially close National Heritage Month this May, the Metropolitan Theater will host "Manila Carnival Queens: Celebration of Filipino Womanhood" on May 30.
The production written by Nicolas Pichay, directed by Rem Zamora, and featuring original music by Vincent A. de Jesus is a collaboration between the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and Panasonic: Projector and Display.
"Saksihan ang muling pagkabuhay ng mga makasaysayang caryatid ng MET upang maglakbay sa iba't ibang panahon," teased the theater. "Sabay-sabay nating balikan ang kuwento ng mga tanyag na Carnival Queens ng Maynila at ang kanilang makabuluhang ambag sa lipunang Pilipino."
Neomi Gonzales, Teetin Villanueva and Marynor Madamesila lead the cast that also includes Matel Patayon, Red Nuestro, MC Dela Cruz, Elian Dominguez, Pamela Imperial and several others.
Board games, beverages
Those looking for more relaxing activities this weekend may opt to visit the All aBOARD Expo and Souk Matcha Fest in different parts of the city.
The All aBOARD Expo runs until May 31 at the M.I.C.E. Center in Quezon City to gather gamers, creators, and communities anew at the leading event for tabletop games.
Souk Matcha Fest, meanwhile, will be irresistible for matcha lovers heading over to Glorietta in Makati.
A mall tour will see Souk Matcha Fest visit Nuvali on the first weekend of July, so that's one thing to calendar ahead of time.
