'Frozen' musical to make Philippine debut in 2027

MANILA, Philippines — The Broadway musical adaptation of Disney's popular animated film "Frozen" will be getting a local run in April 2027, courtesy of 9 Works Theatrical.
The production company unveiled its planned staging at Makati's Proscenium Theater next year.
9 Works Theatrical previously staged "Newsies" in 2017, which was the last Disney Theatricals musical production in the Philippines.
"Frozen" from 2013 follows sisters Anna and Elsa, the latter who secludes herself after trapping the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter with ice powers she has no control over.
It became a global hit and pop culture phenomenon among young audiences en route to numerous accolades, including two Oscars and Grammys, over a billion dollars at the box office, and a still-expanding franchise.
Christophe Beck composed the film's score, while two-time Filipino-American EGOT winner Robert Lopez wrote the songs with his wife Kristin Anderson-Lopez.
The Lopezes and Jennifer Lee, who wrote and co-directed the original film, oversaw "Frozen" becoming a musical first in 2017. A year later in 2017, it became a Broadway musical.
Songs from the movie like "Let It Go," "Love Is An Open Door," "For the First Time in Forever," and "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" were all featured in the musical. The Lopezes created new songs for the production, including "Monster" and "What Do You Know About Love?," and "Dangerous to Dream."
Mixed reviews saw the stage adaptation close when the pandemic hit, but it had runs in other parts of the world, including a three-year engagement on West End starring Samantha Barks as Elsa.
