Brad Pitt ends sobriety after 7 years, but drinks in moderation

MANILA, Philippines — Oscar-winning actor and producer Brad Pitt revealed he was drinking alcohol again after going sober for seven years, though he watches the amount of glasses he has.
Brad is the cover artist for the September 2026 issue of lifestyle magazine Esquire and in the middle of the interview writer Ryan D'Agostino noted that Brad offered wine earlier.
The actor's sobriety began some time after he and former partner Angelina Jolie filed for divorce. D'Agostino further noted that Brad thanked fellow actor Bradley Cooper for helping him get sober and last year talked about sobriety on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast.
"I was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon," Brad said with a little laugh.
He did clarify though that he was now drinking "in a more restrained manner," admitting he "got overconfident a couple times" that did not go well for him.
Brad also said he could have a few glasses of wine but not a lot, "I have to be professional about it."
D'Agostino later wrote that Brad enjoys mornings these days and one could miss the early sun after drinking a lot the night before.

Sobriety journey
Brad thanking his good friend Bradley for helping him get sober was the first time the actor opened up about letting of the drink.
"I got sober because of this guy. And every day has been happier ever since," Brad said upon accepting the Best Supporting Actor award at the 2020 National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala for his "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" role. "I love you, and I thank you."
On "Armchair Expert," Brad told Shepard about his "incredible" visits to Alcoholics Anonymous where men like him shared their "experiences, foibles, missteps, wants, and aches" with a lot of humor.
"I was pretty much on my knees and I was really open," the actor said then. "I was trying anything, anything anyone threw at me. It was a difficult time. I needed rebooting. I needed to wake the f*** up in some areas. And it just meant a lot to me. Everyone was so open."
Brad attended Alcoholics Anonymous sessions for over a year before focusing on his sobriety on his own.
The actor will next be seen in the films "Heart of the Beast" and "The Adventures of Cliff Booth," the latter a standalone sequel to "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood."
