MANILA, Philippines — Makati and Baguio are the country's "urban coffee capitals" if Internet searches were the main points of consideration.

Ice Maker King, a website database for the freezer appliance (though currently only lists products on Amazon), conducted a study to see which Philippine cities attract the most coffee goers based on online search interest and availability of establishments.

The site analyzed Google search activity for coffee-related terms alongside coffee shops in highly-urbanized Philippine cities listed on travel platform Trip Advisor.

Sample terms beyond "cafe/coffee near me" and "iced/brewed coffee" were other popular beverage options like "americano," "latte," "cappuccino," and "espresso."

Another factor for analysis was a given city's density of Starbucks outlets, arguably the most popular and recognizable coffee brand.

The study found that Makati posted numbers so high it was far and away the leading "coffee-centric" city.

Next to Makati was Baguio, particularly resulting in the second-highest concentration of Trip Advisor-listed coffee shops.

The Summer Capital of the Philippines recorded nearly 4,900 monthly coffee-related searches per 100,000 residents, numbers that are 141% higher than the national average.

Following Baguio was Pasay, which had the highest density of Starbucks outlets outside Makati. Behind it was Cebu, the Visayan provice that also saw a high coffee-related search activity.

High numbers in Mandaluyong, Pasig, Taguig, Quezon City, and San Juan all pointed to Metro Manila having a heavy concentration of coffee demand and infrastructures.

Joining Baguio and Cebu for cities outside the capital region with large results were Angeles and Iloilo.
