Drag star Maxie apologizes over resurfaced altercation video

MANILA, Philippines — Local drag star Maxie Andreison issued a public apology following the reemergence of a video that shows her physically assaulting another individual.
The resurfaced video from 2023 shows Maxie and a companion telling off another individual by a van as dawn arrives. Both struck the other party, with Maxie stretching a leg to kick the other individual.
Accounts said that the incident followed a performance when a drunken trans fan wanted a photo with Maxie and pulled on her wig, which was tightly glued to her head.
Another queer person later approached Maxie to apologize on the other person's behalf but Maxie, believing they were the guilty party, physically confronted them until they were told someone else was responsible.
The fan pulled the wig came forward to say sorry and explain themselves, only for the documented viral confrontation to take place.
Maxie — whose real name out of drag is Jayvhot Galang — addressed the issue in an Instagram Live video and explained all had been resolved years ago.
In a two-minute Instagram live, Maxie explained that the circulating video was from 3 years ago, and they have settled the issue with the other party.

"Nag-sorry na ako and nag-sorry na rin sila, and nakapag-patawaran na kami sa isa't isa and we moved on," she said, acknowledging she could have handled the situation better. "Hindi kasi tama talaga na manakit. Hindi siya tama kahit saang aspeto. Hindi talaga ako katanggol-tanggol that time kasi mali talaga siya. Mali talagang manakit tayo."
The drag queen credited individuals for guiding her following the incident, clarifying that she has been trying to be better and hopes not to repeat the incident.
"Hanggang ngayon, pinapangaralan pa rin ako. Ayoko nang maulit 'yon. Pasensiya na," Maxie said, apologizing further as the video circulated toward the end of Pride month. "Alam ko talagang mapag-uusapan 'yun kasi mali talaga ako 'dun. Hindi ako nandito para depensahan ang sarili ko dahil mali talaga ako."
A handler for Maxie later doubled down on the artist's apology while reiterating once more the events that led to the altercation.
Maxie is best known for winning the third season of the reality competition show "Drag Race Philippines" after placing fifth in the second season of another series, "Queen of the Universe."
The drag queen was recently cast for the lead role in the musical stage adaptation of "Die Beautiful," alternating with another "Drag Race Philippines" alum, Viñas DeLuxe.
The issue has some theater and drag fans calling for changes in the anticipated production following the resurfaced video.
