What to do this weekend: Pride runs and music shows
MANILA, Philippines — It's the first weekend of June and there's lots of activities to choose from to welcome the year's sixth month.
Grand shows
Repertory Philippines, in partnership with the Manila Symphony Orchestra, begins this June 5 its shows of "Man of La Mancha," a musical based on the famous novel "Don Quixote."
The production running every weekend of June at the Repertory Theater in Eastwood is led by veteran actor Nonie Buencamino in the dual role of Don Quixote and Miguel Cervantes.
Meanwhile on June 6 and 7, Film Concerts PH is hosting limited shows of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" at the Theatre at Solaire.
Maestro Gerard Salonga will conduct the Filharmonika Orchestra as they perform live while the fourth "Harry Potter" movie centered around the Triwizard Tournament plays above them.
Also taking place on June 6, at the Teatrino Promenade is a live showing of "Dogshow Divas" hosted by Macoy Dubs and Baus Rufo — the tandem behind the popular podcast.
Races anew
Weekend races continue and with June being Pride Month, there is one run dedicated to the queer community.
Araneta City is hosting on June 7, Sunday morning, the "aRUNeta Run Club: Pride Run" alongside free face painting, vitamins, and HIV testing courtesy of the Quezon City Health Department.
Taking place on the same day is another Pride Run in Davao — to be followed by editions in Cebu and Manila — while happening a day earlier, June 6, is Pride Run QC hosted by RunRio in the afternoon along Tomas Morato.
Another race happening on June 7 is BPI's "#BestLifeRun Corporate Race" in Makati as the bank celebrates 175 years of teamwork, wellness, and community.
Art exhibit
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts Gallery opened last June 4 the "Taym Pers 5" exhibit featuring the latest works of the Alpas Art Group.
The new exhibition explores the significance of rest, reflection, and mindful engagement in an increasingly fast-paced world, hence the inspiration from the local playground expression "taym pers" derive from "time first" or "time out."
Participating artists examine in the fifth part of this series how individuals navigate time, memory, and human connection amid rapid social and technological change through diverse artistic approaches and personal narratives.
"Taym Pers 5" presents the pause not as an interruption, but as a meaningful space for reflection, creativity, and renewal, inviting audiences to slow down, contemplate, and rediscover the value of presence in everyday life.
