Anthony Edwards wears Randolf piña barong to meet PBA legends
SAN JUAN, La Union — NBA star Anthony Edwards is making his Philippine return count by donning some local threads.
The Minnesota Timberwolves guard was back in the country for his "Believe That" tour, three years after his first visit when he represented the United States for the FIBA World Cup.
One of the highlights of this year's visit was a photoshoot Edwards had with several legends of the Philippine Basketball Association, the oldest professional basketball league in the world after the NBA.
For the shoot that took place in Taguig, the NBA star wore a customized piña barong designed by RJ Santos under his Randolf line, as well clothes by another local label, Proudrace.
The barong in particular featured an intricate Filipino basketball- and fruits-inspired design on the front, while the back had the number "5" — his jersey number for the Timberwolves — stitched over three sun rays and stars.
Edwards is no stranger to Filipino designs though as Melvin Rodas created the special colorway for the player's second signature basketball shoes for Adidas, the brand bannering Edwards' visit.
Rodas' "Magpakitang Gilas" shoe design is "inspired by the community, pride, and fearless energy of Filipino basketball culture."
PBA icons Tim Cone, Norman Black, James Yap, Johnny Abarrientos, Sean Chambers, Larry Fonacier, Atoy Co, Asi Taulava, Allan Caidic and Jeff Chan, meanwhile, wore custom jackets from Adidas.
After the tour's conclusion, Edwards will set his sights on preparing for the new NBA season with the Timberwolves as they hope to improve last year's 49–33 record, good for sixth in the Western Conference, and second-round playoff exit.
