Zipped Code
MANILA, Philippines - Home-grown accessory label Halo+Halo releases their latest collection which was purely inspired by functional design and past collections. “We believe in reusing the same styles but refreshed in different materials or colors,” Cara Sumabat explains. The brand makes use of zippers, hence the collection title “Ha” which means teeth in Japanese, to elevate each of their designs, and always puts functionality above everything else.
YSTYLE: What inspired your newest collection from Halo+Halo? (are you phasing out Wabisabi or this is different?)
CARA SUMABAT: We’re just putting all the brands in one sphere.
HaloHalo is the large cloud, and Wabisabi is a family within.
Similar to how we launched, Pambahay by HaloHalo our home line.
They all share the same design elements and foundations.
Can you tell us more about the name of the collection? Do you have a specific fascination with leather?
“Ha,” means teeth in Japanese.
Again, I am always incorporating zippers and ways for expansion into my designs.
I always feel like people have so much to carry with too little baggage space.
As a bag and accessory designer, what is your approach when it comes to designing your pieces? Are there specific functions or features that are non-negotiable for you?
We always believe in testing out the styles ourselves. So there’re a lot of thought and processes that goes into the making of the bags.
If the bag fits our everyday lifestyle for at least two weeks, then it passes the test!
How did you approach the shapes and silhouettes for this season?
We revisited old styles and just made them more functional.
We believe in reusing the same styles but refreshed in different materials or colors
Where can we find your pieces?
Everything is available online. We are accepting orders for next year as we only made a small batch.
Our pieces are done with precision and elaborately thus we don’t produce large amounts.
