A very YStyle Christmas
The mood: Upbeat. The people: A mix of fashion industry insiders. The location: Director’s Club at SM Mall of Asia. The event: YStyle’s Christmas party for YStylers and friends.
Like a campsite for high schoolers, people were snuggled into cozy La-Z-Boy seats and bean bags, munching on Chef Tony’s popcorn, Bizu savory tarts, Delifrance pastries and Krispy Kreme donuts. YStyle’s favorite makeup artists, photographers, stylists, models and designers caught up with each other’s lives in this atypical Christmas gathering. They came in full force because they love us too — or maybe they just wanted in on the raffle action. They all went home with an SM reusable green bag overflowing with products from Olay, Pantene, David & Goliath, gift certificates for a facial treatment at Murad or Dermalogica, Havaianas slippers and Mossimo goodies.
And we gave out more prizes than Wowowee. The universe seemed to conspire with the guests that night as they got what they needed or deserved or would look good in. Krispy Kreme gift certificates were won by skinny models (accompanied by catcalls from the boisterous group who yelled out “Go eat something!” and “You need the carbs!” as the likes of Ria Bolivar sashayed to the front to accept her prize), exotic eyewear from Ray-Ban and Shanghai Tang were handed to stylist Melvin Mojica and his assistant CJ Cruz and, well, a Canon camera went to Jake Verzosa.
But the real Christmas miracle was saved for the last draw from the fishbowl. Designer Mich Dulce, sitting way at the back, had been yelling all night in hopes for a new cell phone. “I want the phone!” she moaned loudly from the last row. “No one ever lets me win.” She must have perfected The Secret, because hers was the name pulled out for the Nokia N78.
Happily Kris Kringled, everyone settled into their chairs and watched the premier of Four Christmases, a holiday rom-com featuring Reese Witherspoon and a heavy-phase Vince Vaughn.
When the lights went on, people clapped and started campaigning for phones for next year’s Christmas party.
“It was laidback and fun — like hanging out in a friend’s house,” designer Tippi Ocampo related right after via Facebook. Immediately, post party, almost everyone logged on to Facebook to declare themselves winners or not-quite winners (there are no losers at a YStyle party!).
“Jigs had a blast at the YStyle Christmas party,” declared Jigs Mayuga’s Facebook status via mobile. (He updated a few minutes after leaving the party, natch.) “I won a phone!” he crowed.
Not to be left out, Mich put up her own update shortly after. “Mich won a phone at YStyle and is so freakin’ happy! I’m a winner! I love you, YStyle!”
