Jonty Cruz - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – This year promises to be the best year for music festivals. From local productions to the highly successful international ones, 2016 seems to be when we’re actually going to get our money’s worth as we sweat it out under the sun with more than 50 shades of skin. In case you’ve been living under a rock though, fret not. We’re listing down the five festivals we can’t wait to go to.

Wanderland Music and Arts Festival

Happening:  March 5 at Globe Circuit Events Ground, Makati.

The one that started is all is back and better than ever as Wanderland is set to bring the A-list of the indie/alternative scene with Death Cab for Cutie and Bon Iver sharing the lead acts along with support from even more international bands like The Naked and Famous, San Cisco, and Panama. Representing our local music scene, CRWN, Cheats, and Curtissmith are set to perform. Despite the number of festivals growing every year, Wanderland 2016 is set to remind us who got it right in the first place.

Paradise International Music Festival

Happening: April 9 at Aseana City, Pasay City

Probably the biggest local festival this year, Paradise is bringing the self-proclaimed GOAT, Mr. Kim K himself, Kanye West as the main act. As debut festivals go, we can’t think of anyone bigger than Yeezus. They say you’re only as good as your first impression, so if that’s true then Yeezus is sure to go all out. We’re hoping there will be more  “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” Kanye and less “808s & Heartbreaks” ‘Ye.

Good Vybes Festival

Happening: February 20 at Aseana City Open Grounds, Pasay City.

If you were one of those who cried your hearts out when news of Passion Pit’s Manila show got cancelled, well it’s time to dry your eyes. Because not only is Passion Pit finally coming to Manila, they’re bringing everyone’s favorite U-hating trio Chvrches with them. Good Vybes Festival looks to start this year with a bag as it’s the first big event to hit our shores this 2016. Along with Passion Pit and Chvrches, Stars and breakout indie band Oh Wonder will also be part of Good Vybes fest as a lot of can’t wait to hear their hit singles Without You and Technicolour Beat live. These international acts will be joined by our very own BP Valenzuela, Moonwlk, and Assembly Generals. It’s already happpening in a couple of weeks so best to get on the GVs now.

Governor’s Ball

Happening: June 3 to 5 at Randall’s Island Park, New York City, New York, USA.

Just like Paradise Music Festival, this year’s Gov Ball is also featuring Kanye West, but arguably more important than The College Dropout himself is the reunion of the greatest band of our generation: The Strokes. Let that sink in for a moment as your remember rocking out at 2:30 in the morning to Is This It. Granted that you have to spend some serious cash to watch Governor’s Ball, we feel that the dollars and #NAIAstruggles will be worth it because where else will you see ‘Ye, The Strokes, Robyn, Haim, Beck, and The Killers all in one place this year?
