An apple a day
During the holiday season I was invited to a dinner hosted by Rajiv Ghumman, the prime mover and expatriate behind Bacardi Rum. The event, held at the posh Suite Bar at the Fort, was to introduce the rum’s newest variant, Bacardi Apple.
I had actually already tried Bacardi rum in several other forms and was curious to see how an apple version would taste, so I headed over to Suite (for the first time since the relaunch for a fun, intimate dinner with friends and colleagues.) A delicious spread was prepared by chef Fernando Aracama, which consisted of a light and tasty salad and a slew of delectable entrées. I remember turning to a fellow diner and asking if the goodness was ever going to end.
While we enjoyed our delicious, multi-course meal, we got to try various Bacardi Apple cocktails including straight on the rocks, mojitos, and martinis. While many preferred the new drink on the rocks, I actually preferred the tasty Bacardi Apple martini, which I thought highlighted the tangy mix of Fuji, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith apples quite nicely.
After the dinner, the event became a full-blown party as our host introduced Bacardi Apple to the Happy Mondays crowd at Suite. And, the apple-flavored fun continued later that week with The Bacardi Apple Launch at Fridays Super Club for a Sweet Sexy Saturday Event with a forbidden-fruit-in-the-garden-of-Eden theme.
“We are very excited to bring this delicious new Bacardi variant to the market here in the Philippines,” Rajiv Ghumman told us at the dinner, “and, judging from the reactions here tonight, it’s going to be another successful product for our portfolio.”
I have to agree. The drink is tasty and light yet packs a signature Bacardi kick and can easily be enjoyed straight up or mixed into a delightful array of cocktails like the Bacardi Apple and Sprite, the Bacardi Apple mojito, or the Bacardi Apple martini. Either way, it’s a great choice for your next stop at your favorite watering hole.
