Trance looks good in white

BEAT GENERATION - Moumen Daker -

Last June 28, Manila’s clubbers came out in droves and packed Makati’s A. Venue from wall-to-wall to enjoy a night of pure trance, that awe-inspiring, highly empathic form of music that rises and falls, bringing its listeners up and down with its thrilling fluctuations. And like an army of urban angels, they all came draped in dazzling white.

Leading dance imprint Ministry of Sound, Paul van Dyk’s label Vandit Records, and local party organizers Bigfish brought rising trance sensation Jon O’Bir and Philippine-based DJs Johnboy Lee and Manolet Dario together to weave a solid trance sound that lasted from evening until dawn, shaking the formidable walls of the premier events venue with a reverberating vibe.

Local dance music pros took the stage first. Manolet Dario displayed the deftness that has made him one of the pioneers of the Manila dance scene. Bigfish resident DJ and Bigfish Radio host Johnboy Lee also spun his own trance flavor. They both brought the partygoers to a high momentum in time to witness the next act blow them away.

Main act Jon O’Bir promptly took the stage just before the clock struck two. The emerging trance star was preceded by a highly inventive tech-themed video clip playing in complete darkness, heightening the suspense for the dance music fanatics in attendance. As MC Steve Lavoce’s booming voice rang out to announce Jon O’Bir, deafening cheers ensued from the crowd. Jon stepped out of the shadows in a white Vandit Records T-shirt, young and smiling in the spotlight. When he spun his beautiful trance piece “Waterfalls”, fireworks lit up the high ceiling, followed by the revelers’ awed gasps. As he played his biggest single “Ways and Means”, a timely shower of confetti poured down from above. He lorded over the turntables with unbridled passion and enthusiasm, keeping up his high energy until the party wrapped at five in the morning.

The success of the event was made possible by Nokia Music the leader in Mobile and music devices, Sanmiglight beer, Bacardi, Myx and Velvet channels, Activ8 records, and The Philippines star.
