"Should I give up my virginity?"
March 1, 2004 | 12:00am
DEAR LUCKY,
My boyfriend and I are celebrating our first year anniversary next month. As a gift, he is asking me to give up my virginity. I'm willing to push through with it but I'm scared that he might think lowly of me after... or he might leave me. I'm confused and I would appreciate your advice.
JANELLE, 19
Hi Janelle! What is it with gifts nowadays?! What happened to the sweet things? I can't believe someone would ask for someone's virginity as a gift. Janelle, if you're going to give it up, it should be because you want to and you are accepting the responsibilities that come with it, not because someone wants it as a gift. About him thinking "lowly" of you, I think he would appreciate it more if you tell him that it would be better to wait for the right time instead of making this special moment a "gift."
DEAR LUCKY,
I'm really confused about my guy. l like him so much and I feel that there really is some kind of spark. The problem is, he is rumored to be gay. Would it be okay if I ask him? I'm running out of options and I really want to know before I fall hard. Thanks!
BEATRICE, 22
Hey Beatrice... I don't know how close you are to the guy, so I cant really advise you to ask him straight up. He might get offended, right? Why don't you try the "fishing" method? You can slip some remarks or questions wherein you can actually see if he's gay (this is not a sure thing, although it may help a bit with your confusion). Worse comes to worse (and you really want/need to know) you could ask him as a joke or if you're getting desperate ask him straight up. He may not smile, but hey, at least you got the answer... Oh yeah, if he gets offended, just tell him the truth about your feelings and rumors.
DEAR LUCKY,
I have been experiencing the worst heartbreak! My boyfriend left me and I don't even know the reason why I really want to fix things between us but I just don't know where to start. How does one mend a broken heart?
CINDY, 19
Hi Cindy! I believe if a couple breaks up, they both should know the reason why, even if they do not entirely agree with it they must know. Why don't you ask him first why he left? One person cannot fix a relationship; it has to be from both parties. Do you think he still wants to fix it? About mending a broken heart, it's not easy. Mending a broken heart will never be an easy thing to do but the best thing to do is to just keep yourself busy whether with school, friends, family etc. Your heartbreak may not heal overnight but I'm sure that it will make you a stronger lady.
