All rise for Blue

- Jean Tatum Ancheta -
From the ashes of the British pop scene and the melodramatic vocals of the never-ending boy-band population, now comes another voice from the pyramid of colors…All rise for Blue.

Despite its tacky name, this living color of a boy band has managed to capture the global female populace with its infectious smooth disco slash R&B style. Blue is, indeed, the hottest band of the moment. With their slick straight up attitudes and grooves, they were able to redefine the meaning of "boy band" and garnered the attention of millions of squealing fans and numerous awards in a tug.

Seeing their faces popping out in almost every music channel, their billboards plastered along EDSA, and their songs playing over the airwaves almost every minute, it’s sufficient to say they’re just too hard to resist.

Blue is comprised of talented lads Duncan James (22), Antony Costa (20), Lee Ryan (18), and Simon Webbe (22).

Lee is the obvious heartthrob among the bunch; his boyish glee and hyperactive moods are enough to leave the crowd ballistic. He wasn’t able to join the group in their recent Manila visit due to a minor karting accident. However, Simon, Duncan, and Anthony were still dressed with confident showmanship ready for the killing. Starting off with Simon, the voice behind the R&B act, who carries the group on his back and gives it a little bit of attitude that uplifts them from the living ailment of boy-band syndrome. Top it all off with the cheeky-choppy Anthony, whose Greek Herculean features never cease to magnetize a herd of female damsels waiting for him to brighten up every dull moment. And finish the mixture with the soft and sensitive aura of Duncan, which is enough to drive the ladies to burst into a deafening scream when he enters the stage. With all the individuality tucked around their waists, it is undoubtedly apparent why Blue has been one of the fastest rising acts to emerge from the UK in years.

Blue’s leap to stardom came in July 2001 when their smooth groove single "All Rise" stormed the charts at number two. It was followed with the soulful classic R&B "Too Close", an original single pulled out from the band Next, which actually sky-rocketed to the top spot. Their music created an impact to pre-teens and young professionals alike, and from then on their name was ranked near the podium of popular boy bands with a little twist on the side and a reputable music on their hands. A few years back, they were playing a different kind of music, fresh from college, with bits of stage flicks, working in vegetable stands, bingo callers, roofers and practically just doing all the jobs one can possibly think of, but singing has always been in their blood.

Now, they are living the dream they’ve always wanted. Their determination to succeed is there, ready to achieve what some vocal groups failed to do in their short life-span.
