The Ultimate Clubbing Guide

- Kares Velasquez of Young Star Magazine -
Definitive to the night life and party scene in the Metro nowadays is clubbing in its most Ibiza-ish fashion. With the emergence of trance and house music (not to mention the occasional foam parties here and there), everything is going way ‘ward European. And of course, nightlife in our own little city of lights, Manila luce, is fast in catching up.

So here it is, Young Star Magazine gives you a dose of our own concoction of the party life. For listeners’ pleasure, we’ve come up with behind-the-scene stints to help you take your pick from our very own.

Track # 1
2 PEOPLE
(Smoothie’s Club Mix)
Jean Jacques Smoothie

Are you very sweet looking, carefree, and stares in front of your dresser as you figure out what shade of lipstick could perfectly match the bourgeois of accessories that you have on? Then this one’s for you!

You bounce around flamboyantly in your very sultry and in-style fashionista clothing as you enter a bar and order a drink or two from the waiter. You look almost innocent but you know for a fact that that’s not entirely true, because you might just end up with a few more drinks than you can handle, only if the night seems to be progressing to ignite your interests.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN AT:
Pravda, Venezia, Mati….wherever the crowd is.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WEARING:
Only the latest. Name it from asymmetrical tops, peasant blouses, ruffles…the works!

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DRINKING:
Margarita, baby!

Track # 2
FLAWLESS
(Club Mix)
The Ones

The ramp becomes an automatic dance floor for you who love strutting your stuff. And you have all the right to, because you have what it takes. You know you’re hot, and you may as well be the Absolut Girl Of The Night exerting the least effort in getting the attention of the entire male population.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DRINKING:
Give it to ’em hard.

Track # 3
IT’S ALRIGHT
(Radio Edit)
Filur

The track screams pure independence. Such a strong personality to this tune. It throws out the don’t-waste-my-time vibe right at your face. If you’re the type of person who digs the energy this song sends out, you probably don’t keep a single book dwelling on the complexities of love on your shelf. You find that there are a lot more important things you can be doing than bothering about love’s mysteries…which is probably second only to unlocking the secrets of the universe. You stroll along the strip of Rockwell just taking in the cool breeze, very alluring and glowing from within with a little help from the nice lighting the night posts give off, and spelling the word fun in every step that you take.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN AT:
Mati, Cork, Che, Blue Onion, El Botin… the strips of Rockwell and Eastwood.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WITH:
The friendly person you are…friends, colleagues, or whomever you bump into along the way.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WEARING:
Comfy but fashionable outfits that would suit your mood for the night.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DRINKING:
Beer, tequila, vodka with red bull, and mixed drinks.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DOING:
Chatting with everyone and just having a blast of a time.

Track # 4
MY FRIEND
(Dorfmeister vs. Madrid De Los Austrias Club)
Groove Armada

Okay, imagine this…Sex And The City club style. Episode’s character in focus: Carrie. You just painted the perfect occasion to let this hit TV series soundtrack potential loose. You consider an evening out clubbing with your friends the perfect remedy for any face-sagging tragedy that befalls you. Just hit the floor with your girlfriends and bust the move like Sarah Jessica Parker…Don’t forget the Cosmopolitan!

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN AT:
Aqua, Wherelse, and Flute.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WITH:
Girlfriends galore…only for the stylish, that’s for sure!

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WEARING:
Hip flattering outfits complete with matching accessories and a tiny bag…and of course, the color of the shoes have to match, too!

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DRINKING:
Cosmopolitan!

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DOING:
Giggling with girlfriends and checking out all the men.

Track # 5
RAPTURE
(John Creamer & Stephane K. French Edit)
Ilo

So you like this song. Let me guess, your closet is like a massive ocean of black clothes, right? You wouldn’t think of wearing any other color out. You put some attitude into clubbing, when you go showing off your silver piercings located in parts of your body that were never meant to be pierced, and of course, with your ever present pout. You dig this serious track because that’s what clubbing is to you…serious and very sensual.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WEARING:
Individualistic but chic fashion!

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DRINKING:
Orange juice or bottled water.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DOING:
Dazed and confused in the sea of humanity.

Track # 6
MINDCIRCUS
(Gabriel and Dresden Radio Edit)
Way Out West featuring Tricia Lee Kelshall

You manage to go out and have fun chilling on Manolet Dario’s favorite spin options, but once this track starts playing, you just can’t help but feel that some pent-up emotion is getting triggered deep within you. "Why??" would be the question you frequently ask once you start sulking by yourself in the bar and finishing up all the drinks. You could have probably written this song yourself with all that "Damsel in Distress" emotions you have…collect all the royalty checks, and become rich and famous.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN AT:
Venezia, Wherelse, Pravda

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WEARING:
Always something new or always trying to look her best with that ‘out-for-vengeance’ attitude.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DRINKING:
Scotch, cognac, name it!

Track # 7
CLOSE COVER
(Filterheadz "Belgian Sprouts" Remix)
Minimalistix

Very natural with a hint of ethnicity. Loose clothing, warp-ish fashion, would be the best and the most appropriate outfit for this type of person who goes clubbing and stays out ’til sunrise…take note, not just ’til the break of dawn. Dancing the night away and not even bothering to struggle squeezing in to get an order from the bar because bottled water would do perfectly fine. Closing the club ’til all the lights are turned on already would just ruin it for you. Very appreciative of tightly enclosed and dark places along Makati Ave., Seventyeight Orange, Basement and the like, to perfectly strain out the sun. If only the night could just go on and never end….

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN AT:
Regulars at Orange, Basement, Twilo, and ever present at all the rave parties

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WITH:
With low-profile friends you’ve kept for years.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DOING:
Dancing or just absorbing the scene.

Track # 8
SO LONELY
(Radio Edit)
Jakatta

This track has a touch of Madonna in it. Very energetic and playful. You get up so confidently in tight boot-cut blue jeans, really wicked pointed boots, and order fruit-flavored mixes at the bar. garnished with sliced up fruits and topped with one of those small paper umbrellas that serve no purpose. You smile a lot and play with the straw in between your teeth without crushing it. You just simply ooze sex appeal and without you even knowing, the men around you just watch your every move. That just keeps the drinks coming at you. Oh, so now you like the song! More likely to be the perfect tune to get you grooving in Venezia.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WITH:
Different sets of friends all the time and with a guy once in a while.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DRINKING:
All the flavors of margarita and whatever comes your way.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DOING:
Flirting! Big time!

Track # 9
COLUMBIA
(PVD)
Paul Van Dyk

Manila’s favorite foreign DJ whips up yet another mind-warping track. For anyone who considers clubbing as a serious sport, this one is sure to get you going. I think I just heard in the news that bottled water companies are going on a price hike and warehouses and gyms like the one in Casino Filipino become "the" final destination.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN AT:
Warehouses and underground club scenes.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WITH:
Anyone who has the same trip instantly becomes a friend.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WEARING:
Tank-top, jeans, and rubber shoes.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DOING:
Feeling the music.

Track # 11
YOU’RE NOT ALONE
(Album Mix)
ATB

If a Hollywood producer were to create a movie about clubbing in Manila, this song would probably be the first track of the soundtrack CD. You would definitely download this song (and all its various remixes) from the net. Very elite, mainstream clubbing. You’re the type of person to drive a nice car and get to park it really close to the door…Considering the parking space problems we have here in the Metro, that’s saying a lot more than just "you’re punctual". You never wait in line and you give the bouncers the usual head-cooly-jerking acknowledgement that serves as a universal pass for every club in Makati. And oh yeah, you always tip high.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN AT:
Fidel, Raj, Ladida, Pravda, Orange, Il Ponticello, and Flute.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WITH:
Anybody who’s a ‘somebody’.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN WEARING:
Only the latest designer clothes.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN DRINKING:
Vodka cranberry, agua, martinis, and cosmos.
