These UA&P teachers get a break and a treat

- Marielle C. Santos of the Philippine Star’s YS -
Whoever said that professors have to be square, stiff, grumpy, and not at all fun, as if they had the whole world on their shoulders? I mean, don’t our professors have a right to have fun like we students always do?

They work so hard, but as the saying goes — work hard, party harder!

Believe it or not, it was recently the UA&P teachers’ turn to sit down, relax in their seats and loosen their tie a bit, as we took them back to THEIR good ol’ days.

A bunch of Management students sang and danced the whole show away with tunes by the Comets (Who? I guess the BoyzIIMen of their time!), Elvis’ Can’t Help Falling In Love, Abba’s Chiquitita, Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive, to newer hits like Vanessa Williams’ Colors of the Wind and the Corrs’ At Your Side!

To think that this was only organized two days before the actual event! It turned out better than what everyone expected! I mean, UA&P’s Dizon Auditorium became the venue for a show that combined Broadway and a scene from the Karaoke movie Duets! Not only did the professors enjoy the show but the students themselves joined in the laughter as well — especially since they enjoyed hooting and cheering on their friends who performed on stage. It also helped that the hosts made killer scripts that at times didn’t seem to fit but ended up so hilariously funny anyway! And I guess that was the main purpose of the whole show — to make the students and especially the Management professors smile, laugh and groove the night away. They definitely deserve all the credit, of course. Along these students, there was Dr. Avic Caparas, the ultimate show master of the night, who put together not only the production but also the whole School of Management Week at UA&P with the other professors.

Well, the next time we see our professors they’ll be back in business, teaching and helping us work our butts off for one last semester, but we will never forget the night they hung loose — even for just one hour.

That was how we wanted thank them for being patient, for challenging us in every possible way, and for being real professors who don‘t just teach students, but make students love what they’re learning!
