Cinemanila 2001, Dec 7-16

The works of young and independent filmmakers are highlighted in this year's Cinemanila International Film Festival. The annual event is patterned after the Sundance Film Festival founded by American actor-director, Robert Redford.

Begun in 1999, Cinemanila aims to give local filmmakers the opportunity to present their works in an international film festival, together with their foreign counterparts. Cinemanila founder and festival director, Tikoy Aguiluz, says that the event is "…also a channel to produce films that are independent in spirit."
