5 reasons why traveling solo is good for you

- Nuffnang blogger Justwandering -

Traveling solo may not be for everyone, but here are five reasons why it might be what you need:

You travel at your own time. Organizing a trip for a group is a logistical nightmare. It’s hard enough finding a travel date that works for your work or school schedule, what more for a group of two or ten? Traveling alone means that you only have to consider one schedule – yours. This also means that when you suddenly have to re-schedule the trip, you don’t have an angry mob to face.

You travel at your own pace. Have you ever gone on a trip with a travel Nazi? It’s that person who keeps a rigorous itinerary and insists you do everything on schedule. If you’re traveling on your own, you can sleep in as much as you want and leave the hostel/hotel when you want to. You can dawdle as much as you want in the places that catch your fancy.

You go where you want to go. You did your homework and listed down all the must-see’s in your destination. But as you set out, you suddenly wonder, “Do I really want to see this?” While landmarks and other attractions are noteworthy and worth a look, there are just some places that don’t appeal to everyone. If you find museums boring, would you willingly go into one just so you can say you’ve been there?

You do what you want to do. Ever got roped into doing something you don’t want to do? While traveling is about going out of your comfort zone, there are just some things that you just have to say no to. If you’re doing the trip on your own, you can decide which activities you partake in. At the same time, it pushes you to face your fears and do what you never thought you’d ever do.

It’s all about you. Traveling alone gives you time to get to know the most important person in your life: you. Being on your own lets you discover who you are. It pushes you to be independent and gives you a great confidence boost.
