In the name of all things pretty

- Featured Blogger Sasha Manuel -

Don’t you just love being a woman? It certainly can be painfully difficult at times growing into one, but the journey of discovery will consistently fascinate you, which makes everything else worth it. The experience of learning the ropes will bring you to a place filled with wonderful events that are both educational and fun at the same time, leaving you amazed with how things would turn out. I’ve dedicated a full decade in doing just that — becoming a woman. The time I had spent had me thanking all the great women who served as models, mentors and supporters. They played their individual parts in my life as I ventured into exploring and developing my passions, in this case, fashion and beauty. These women are the best folks to share this with, yes?

Laying the foundation

Without her realizing it, my mum had been a great influence on me when it comes to fashion. Though our personal styles differ, she has this uncanny ability to zone in on a piece that I would actually wear. I reckon it shouldn’t really surprise me since she did buy all my clothes from birth until I graduated from Uni. She laid the foundation on my own dressing and shopping habits, and heavily influenced my sense of style.

All that glitters

Fashion is a form of expression for me. It generally stems from my personality and changes with the same frequency as my mood. Fashion is something I’d like to control, adhering to my own definition of style. After all, it’s something distinctly personal.

Embracing my femininity, I’ve learned to love everything about dressing and getting dolled up. As a kid, I had played dress up with my mum’s clothes, accessories and shoes from the sixties and seventies, and painted my face with her favorite lipstick (never admitted to have ruined it in the process when questioned, of course). You’ve just got to love how little kids translate what grown ups do.

Stepping into my 20s, I was thrown into the world of fashion as I did modeling stints and magazine work, which fed this growing passion. I’ve learned to love the industry, glitters and all.

Glowing inside out

When I mentioned that one can go through difficult means in her journey into womanhood, I speak from experience. Beauty had been a sore subject for me, a source of much insecurity. You might say that every girl goes through this and you just might be right. I’ve struggled against society’s definition and prejudice; learned that it has to start from within. Acceptance is key to bring out that beautiful person in you.

My trek in the world of beauty has been a colorful one. I’ve learned to enjoy makeup and its application techniques, hair styling and haircare. Skincare tops my list, though. I believe that it’s never too early to start caring for one’s skin. My confidence grew stronger when I discovered that having a good skincare regimen produces fabulous results. No foundation, blush or any amount of makeup can beat the combination of great skin and inner beauty, which can give you that gorgeous natural glow.

As lifestyle dictates

In the years that I’ve spent with these passions, I’ve come across other folks who are as passionate. I’ve observed how each of them differs and how significantly they express themselves through their individual fashion and beauty choices. It’s fascinating to watch these people and discover a little bit about their personality and lifestyle.

Personal style is a signature. It’s your way of defining and combining fashion and beauty. It’s always dressing to fit a lifestyle. And that’s how my own personal style developed. I favor the items that work well with my usual activities. My activities are actually rooted on my personality so it’s more productive to stay true to it rather than forging it into something different.

All things put together, I’ve somehow given you an idea of my personal thoughts on fashion and beauty, two of the topics I’m passionate about. For years, I’ve worked on sharing most of what I’ve learned from my experiences with women who share the same interests; celebrating, in the name of all things pretty, every little thing that makes being a woman fabulous. I do this because whatever is going on in the world at present, on the fashion and beauty front at least, things look light, colorful and optimistic.
