Going beyond weddings in Cebu

FORTyFIED - FORTyFIED By Cecile Lopez Lilles -
Rustan’s and Shangri-la Mactan Island Resort and Spa, together with Wedding Essentials Magazine and The Write Impression Paperie and Press recently launched "Weddings and Beyond" in Cebu, a complete gift registry program designed to commemorate life’s most meaningful events.

Starting with the soon-to-wed couple’s wedding ceremony, Rustan’s offers a long list of merchandise and services: wedding gowns, jewelry, cosmetics, toiletries, household furnishings and countless innovative gift ideas.

Clients can now create their own personalized wish list from among dozens of world-renowned brands and labels exclusively available at Rustan’s. They may also inform their friends and family of their gift registries with the "Weddings and Beyond" elegant registry notification cards providing the guests a list of items hand-picked by the couple. Clients get access to much-needed assistance and information such as wedding or party coordinators, insightful product reviews and informed gift recommendations.

"Weddings and Beyond". It facilitates delivery of wedding presents to the couple’s new home. The succeeding precious events in the couple’s life are also made stress-free and memorable because "Weddings and Beyond" provides the same competent and world-class services for baptisms, wedding anniversaries and birthdays.

The launch was held at the Shangri-la Mactan’s Marquee, a newly-inaugurated venue for celebrating special occasions in a grand scale of anywhere from 500 to 1,100 people. The set-up was dreamy and magical. White dominated the color palette, the lighting in verbena green was dramatic, the table settings were elegant. The focal point of the party was the Yohji Yamamoto wedding dress displayed on a mannequin at the center of the ballroom. The full, billowing, princess skirt made use of yards upon yards of white tulle. The bodice was a plunging, form-fitting halter. The fashion statement was anchored on the magnificent head-piece executed in swirls of fabric that mimicked the appearance of a mini cloud on the bridal mannequin’s head. It was a work of art.

Wedding vendors, suppliers and planners set up their display corners along the Marquee, while the center was reserved for the dinner tables and the fashion ramp on which the evening‚s highlight, a bridal fashion show, was to unfold. The show, mounted by Cebu-based and Rustan’s in-house fashion designers, did not disappoint. Stand-outs were Bergamo men’s formal wear. The piece de resistance of Bergamo’s collection was the pina jacket, refreshingly cut western-style and not in the traditional barong Tagalog. It was fully-lined and impeccably tailored with nary a trace of wrinkle on any of the visible seams. The rest of the suits in this collection were made of linen, cotton and wool. A favorite of mine was not part of the show but was worn by Mel Meer, the genius behind Bergamo. He had on a pattern-on-pattern outfit. His jacket was in a hounds tooth print, his dress shirt done in a fine stripe, his trousers were of a richly-patterned wool masterfully tailored and simply stunning.

Similarly eye-catching was Cebu designer, Felix Yu’s flapper fringed wedding dress, made more edgy by the pearls hanging at the end of each fringe. This outfit is for the adventurous bride with a fun-filled spirit. Brilliant execution is what could be said of Oj Hofer‚s origami-style bridal bustier. Ultra-modern, minimalist and cutting edge are apt descriptions for this wedding dress which highlights Hofer‚s precision in tailoring. A crowd favorite was Protacio Empaces‚ retro ‘60s wedding gown done in satin. The boat-neck collar emphasized the model’s shoulders. A beige soutache detail adorned the ball skirt. The model’s beehive hairdo and elbow-length gloves completed the whole ‘60s look.

The evening was capped by Rustan’s president, Bienvenido Tantoco Jr.’s promise of continued world-class offerings and services by Rustan’s to the Cebuanos. And to this, we definitely say "I do"!
