It’s an Instagram world after all

SUPREMO - Tim Yao - The Philippine Star

Adiverse group of people from the fields of food, fashion, showbiz, media and pop culture had gathered at The Podium Mall --yes, the new platform for culture and contemporary art is the venue where the most number of people meet and match--the mall! This select group of scenesters paid tribute to that ancient thing called The Printed Photograph.  â€œYou don’t see people printing pictures anymore that's why it's refreshing to see these pictures on the wall!" Said food blogger Lori Baltazar, one of the first people to arrive as first time exhibitor in the first ever Instagram Project at the Podium Mall.

I was told that The PodiumMall recognizes the power of social media to promote positive change.
That is why The Podium  along with Philippine Star SUPREME, pioneer many of the social media-based events and activations that happen in the The Podium properties. More than just being a novel idea that came to life, it really is more like, a reflection of the times. This is the way people live now. Want to know what your friends are doing? check their tweets. Wanna show off your recent trip to Europe? Start flipping through your mobile phone.

There’s no actual proof in numbers, but with the advent of Instagram, people are eating put more ( #foodporn), shopping for new clothes to post for their #ootd (outfit of the day)  and generally, just living their lives to share out their with their peers, and the world. Some people are starting to see life via Instagram posts. “That moment is so Instagram-worthy!” Raise your hands if you’re guilty.

What’s makes Instagram doubly exciting is that it pushes the competitive spirit within us~nobody wants to post an ugly photo, right? While some actually do (without them knowing it) everybody challenges themselves, puts their best photographic eye forward, tinkers some apps (again, some more than others) and then waits for likes. Again, raise your hands if guilty.

That night going around the panels at the atrium of the Podium mall, I was enamored by walking around different subjects around different timelines. There was the cute baby shots of Celestia with proud, new parents Paolo and Rissa Trillo, the fashion editorial like shots of Kim Jones, some even taken by her fiance Jericho Rosales, the luscious food porn as delivered by Lori Baltazar (who just launched a book entitled, what else? Dessert Comes First!), the artsy craft shots of Alessandra Lanot, the selfies of Vince Uy and the majestic travel shots of Poma Malantic. Roy Macam's spectacular shots of iconic people wearing his iconic eyewear deserves a special mention. There was also snapshots of Andi Manzano from her latest European sojourn, yummy food snaps of Mano Lotho and the artworks of Dee Jae Paeste, and many more.

Different points of view, one beautiful world. For however else you see the world, there’s always a way to point, shoot, click, edit and share away. “Instagram that s*it! Why don’t you?
