Dennis Padilla defends Robin Padilla amid online criticism over impeachment trial
MANILA, Philippines — Actor Dennis Padilla came to the defense of his friend, Sen. Robin Padilla, saying he is deeply hurt by the insults being hurled at the lawmaker on social media amid the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Robin, who is serving as a senator-judge in the impeachment proceedings, has faced intense criticism online over some of his remarks during the trial, with detractors questioning his performance and competence.
Speaking to members of the media during the “Maddox Iconic Runway: Diamond Jewelry Fashion Show 2026,” Dennis said he has seen many of the comments directed at the senator and believes the attacks have gone too far.
"Hindi, hindi maganda. Tsaka, I'm sure, 'yung mga comments ng mga taong 'yan, tandaan n'yo 'to, babalik sa inyo 'yan. God will prove you wrong," Dennis said.
The actor admitted he is particularly hurt whenever he sees people calling Robin "bobo," saying the term is both insulting and unnecessary.
"Nasasaktan ako roon sa sinasabi na bobo si Robin. I hate that word. Kumbaga, wala namang bobong tao. Tsaka, very insulting," Dennis said.
The actor urged social media users to express their opinions respectfully instead of resorting to personal attacks.
"Sa mga basher, huwag naman tayong umabot sa ganu'n kababa. Itaas naman natin ang quality ng pagsasalita natin. May pinag-aralan naman ang mga Pilipino."
Despite the backlash surrounding the impeachment trial, Dennis believes Robin continues to enjoy the support of many Filipinos.
He pointed to the senator's strong showing in early preference surveys for the 2028 national elections as proof that public support for the actor-turned-senator remains intact.
